Why do you need my name and email address for a news tip?
We would like to have the opportunity to follow up on tips received via this news line. We pledge to maintain confidentiality--we will not identify anyone who submits a news tip, either in a story or in our reporting, unless the tipster agrees. Having contact info will allow us to follow up, if necessary, with the original tipster in the course of reporting a story. If you'd prefer to leave a news tip and not be contacted, please say so in the tip--but understand that it can be difficult for journalists to chase a story with only sketchy information.
