Proposed legislation to create a universal single-payer plan to provide health coverage to every New York State resident likely will not become law anytime soon in Albany—and the issue puts the South Fork’s two state legislators in a rare position, on opposite sides of an issue.
The State Assembly approved the measure in mid-May. It calls for publicly funded universal health care for all state residents, regardless of wealth, income, age, immigration status or preexisting condition.
According to a press release from Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., who co-sponsored the bill and voted in favor of it, the legislation would give everyone access to comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, primary and preventive care, maternity care, prescription drug costs, laboratory testing, rehabilitative care, and even dental, vision and hearing care, as well as provide out-of-state coverage.
Versions of this bill have been approved in the Assembly both in 2015 and 2016—but the bill never has won the approval of the State Senate. It’s not likely to be approved this time either, both Mr. Thiele and State Senator Kenneth LaValle said. In fact, the two agreed that it’s unlikely to even get to the Senate floor for a vote.
Opponents of the bill have cited major potential tax increases as a concern, although a campaign website in favor of the bill, nyhealthact.com, claims that 98 percent of all New Yorkers would save money through the single-payer health coverage compared to the costs of existing health insurance policies through employers or the federal Health Insurance Marketplace.
Mr. LaValle acknowledged that he expects the state to eventually establish a single-payer system, sometime within the next five to 10 years.
But for now, he said, he wants more information on the fiscal impact of the bill before he would consider supporting the idea of universal health care at the state level.
“I think first we need to see what happens in Washington, with the heath care act, to see how that affects New York State,” the senator said in a phone interview on Monday. “I have been asking people: What is the cost of single-payer? Is it something that we would have to increase taxes in New York to pay for? I have yet to get a direct answer.”
He added, “The cost of that is very important to me, and I think important to the people that I represent.”
Mr. Thiele agreed that it was unlikely that the bill would be voted on this year, let alone pass, but said it was important to introduce the measure again, if only to keep the idea in the minds of New Yorkers.
“Politics being what it is, I think in the current political climate, the chances of a Republican majority leadership [in the State Senate] allowing this to come up for a vote is limited. It’s probably a long shot,” Mr. Thiele said. “Even if it doesn’t pass, an important accomplishment is letting people know about this bill—that there is an alternative to what’s happening in Washington.”
Although the State Senate now has a 32-member Democratic Party majority in the 63-seat chamber after a special election in May, an alliance between several Democratic senators and the GOP still gives Republicans control over the Senate.
Mr. Thiele challenged Mr. LaValle’s concerns over the price tag of the bill. He argued that taxpayers would actually be saving money from the elimination of insurance premiums, which would balance out any tax increase.
Commenting on his disagreement with Mr. LaValle on the issue, Mr. Thiele noted that although the pair work well together, they don’t always see eye to eye on every piece of legislation.
“If two people agree 100 percent of the time, it probably means one of us isn't thinking,” Mr. Thiele said with a laugh.
The state’s proposed health care act comes as the House Of Representatives voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as “Obamacare,” hoping to replace it with the Republican-backed American Health Care Act, although the bill still needs support from the U.S. Senate.
Fly in, or sneak in across the border and you'll receive any type of health care at no charge, presumably including gender reassignment surgery.
I invite my friends on the left to justify this. It's time to stand up for what you really believe. Is it our responsibility to pay for the health care of anyone physically present in New York "regardless of immigration status"?
EMTALA, like COBRA, has been on the books since 1986.

REPORTING FROM SACRAMENTO
Single-payer healthcare could cost $400 billion to implement in California
Melanie Mason
A single-payer healthcare system in California would cost $400 billion annually, according to a legislative analysis released on Monday.
The analysis, released in advance of the proposal's hearing in a key fiscal committee, fills in what has so far been the biggest unanswered question concerning the plan to dramatically overhaul ...more California's healthcare coverage.
The analysis found that the proposal would require:
A total cost of $400 billion per year to cover all healthcare and administrative costs.
Of that, $200 billion of existing federal, state and local funds could be repurposed to go toward the single-payer system.
The additional $200 billion would need to be raised from new taxes.
The analysis proposes one scenario in which a new payroll tax on employers — with a rate of 15% of earned income — could supply the new revenue. But the measure itself does not contain a specific tax proposal, and therefore would not, at this point, need a two-thirds vote to approve a new tax.
The write-up also notes that a universal healthcare proposal would likely reduce spending by employers and employees statewide, which currently ranges between $100 billion and $150 billion annually. Therefore, the total new spending under the bill would be between $50 billion and $100 billion each year.
Under the bill, the state would cover medical care for every resident in California, including those without legal immigration status. Enrollees would not have to pay premiums, co-payments or deductibles.
What, Mr. Big, is your proposal for an ideal healthcare system?
FAIL.

DONALD TRUMP’S LIFESTYLE COULD COST TAXPAYERS NEARLY $1 BILLION
BY EMILY JANE FOX
APRIL 11, 2017 10:01 AM
Of the 82 days of Trump’s presidency, ...more 21 of them have been spent at Mar-a-Lago. Seventeen of them have been spent on the golf course. As CNN reported, these trips have cost roughly $21.6 million. (That number does not include the substantial sums the Secret Service spends to protect the president’s children when they travel overseas for business trips, as Eric Trump did in January when he flew to Uruguay to promote the Trump Organization. Nor does it include the unknown cost to taxpayers when nearly 100 Secret Service agents escorted the president’s extended family on a spring break trip to Aspen last month.)
In all eight years of President Barack Obama’s presidency, his travel, both personal and professional, amounted to a total of $97 million, according to Judicial Watch. That puts Trump on track to surpass Obama’s travel spending over the course of two terms in about one year. At that rate, Trump’s trips to Mar-a-Lago alone would cost over $800 million in public funds if he remains in office for two terms.
Shuttling the president back and forth to Palm Beach isn’t the only expense weighing on the Secret Service—not to mention the Palm Beach police department, which is reportedly spending $60,000 a day in overtime when Trump is in town. According to The New York Times, the agency is shelling out money to rent space in Trump Tower and pay for hotel rooms, transportation, and living expenses in order to accommodate the First Family’s lifestyle. Agents from across the country are being diverted from their normal work on criminal-investigation duties in order to protect the Trump family. The agency is tasked with protecting Trump’s wife, five children, three of their spouses, and a handful of his top aides like Kellyanne Conway and Reince Priebus, at the president’s request. In fact, the Secret Service reportedly had to request $60 million in additional funding for next year in order to keep up with the Trump lifestyle.

U.S. global image plunges under Trump
(Reuters) - The image of the United States has deteriorated sharply across the globe under President Donald Trump and an overwhelming majority of people in other countries have no confidence in his ability to lead, a survey from the Pew Research Center showed.
Five months into Trump's presidency, the survey spanning 37 nations showed U.S. favorability ratings in the rest of the world slumping to 49 percent ...more from 64 percent at the end of Barack Obama's eight years in the White House.
But the falls were far steeper in some of America's closest allies, including U.S. neighbors Mexico and Canada, and European partners like Germany and Spain.
"American value" including his educational background:
Trump Says He Was ‘First In His Class,’ Evidence Is Released Showing That’s A Lie
President Trump has maintained for quite some time that he graduated “first in his class” at Wharton in 1968. He has repeated the claim several times to various publishers and news agencies, including the New York Times who he accuses of “fake ...more news.”
Well, it turns out, Trump didn’t graduate first in his class as he claims. In 1968, the Daily Pennsylvanian published a complete list of the 56 students who were on the Wharton Dean’s List that year – and nowhere can Trump’s name be found. That means, not only was Trump not first in his class, but he wasn’t even anywhere near the top 15 percent.
While Trump’s transcripts have never been publicly released, it’s not hard to verify this kind of information. Wharton graduate Stephen Foxman spoke with the DP and said that if Trump graduated with any honors he likely would have been mentioned in the 1968 Commencement Program. A copy of the program from the Penn Archives shows 20 Wharton award and prize recipients, 15 cum laude recipients, four magna cum laude recipients and two summa cum laude recipients for Trump’s graduating year. Trump’s name was never listed.
A copy of the program from the Penn Archives shows 20 Wharton award and prize recipients, 15 cum laude recipients, four magna cum laude recipients and two summa cum laude recipients for Trump’s graduating year. Trump’s name was never listed.
“If he had done well, his name would have shown up,” Foxman said.
Trump has previously suggested that he had an MBA from Wharton’s prestigious graduate school, opting to tell people he went to the “famous” Wharton. But, that too, was a lie. They’re pretty much known for their business graduate degrees, and Trump played on that prestige when he spoke with people. In reality, Trump never attended any graduate studies there, and only transferred in during his junior year to enroll in their undergraduate program for two years.
Several of his classmates gave a mixed account of his time there but stated that he didn’t seem to be much of an intellectual man – opting to leave the campus over the weekend to go back to New York. When he was there, he didn’t study a lot according to Wharton graduate Louis Calomaris, saying he did not “seem to care about being prepared. Don was loath to really study much.”

“It is never pleasant to be reading things frequently that are not agreeable news,” he continued, “but I would say it is invaluable arm of the presidency as a check really on what is going on in administration.”
Kennedy went on to say the absence of a free press in the “totalitarian system” of the Soviet Union at the time was a “terrific disadvantage” for their country.
“Even ...more though we never like it, and even though we wish they didn’t write it, and even though we disapprove, there isn’t any doubt that we could not to the job at all in a free society without a very, very active press,” he said.
Trump, who has frequently lashed out at the press, labeled the media “the enemy of the American people” in a tweet Friday, in response to the coverage of his administration’s bumpy first month.

And while you're at it, please do tell us what kind of loyal American, much less its sitting president, would broadcast a bash of the foundational principles and institutions of his country to all the world, and what kind of snowflake would shamelessly stand before the world and whine that he was being criticized by a key element of an institution enshrined in the Constitution HE SWORE TO UPHOLD? Please do tell us how this is putting America first?
Recent and astute observation: He, a (supposed) "billionaire" based in NYC, where not a single branch/room of a library/cultural institution/or hospital bears his name ...more speaks volumes.
President Trump has faced seven times more leaks during the first 126 days of his administration than the previous two administrations. That figure includes many leaks from the intelligence community that were aimed at embarrassing Trump but have damaged U.S. national security, according to a new Senate report.

Trump In Trouble As Old Business Partner Begins Cooperating In Money Laundering Investigation
The Trump Organization’s former Senior Advisor Felix Sater just began spilling his secrets to lawyers in an international money laundering probe into foreign buyers at the failed Trump SoHo Hotel project.
Russian mobster Felix Sater ran Bayrock, the developer who funded the Manhattan Trump-branded condo-hotel project ...more with money from the former Soviet state of Kazakstan and allegedly with Putin’s cash from banks in Iceland.
FT wrote:
Trump is so terrified of talking about his involvement with Felix Sater, that lied in a sworn deposition – in a video embedded below – swearing that he wouldn’t even recognize the Russian-American emigre.
Felix Sater spent a decade working as an informant for the FBI while working with Trump, at Trump Tower, after being convicted of a felony in secret for participating in a $40 million dollar Wall Street pump and dump penny stock scam with the Italian mafia. More recently, Sater was caught in bizarre a diplomatic back channel operation to Russia with Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, who himself recently hired a criminal defense lawyer.
Republicans elected Donald Trump because they wanted him to run the country like one of his businesses; however, any Trump venture seems to always involve a lot of lies, foreign cash, an underworld connection and a tangle of lawsuits by people he’s harmed along the way.
That’s exactly what the Trump Presidency has become in just 167 days; a typical Trump train wreck.
Watch Trump lie under oath about his relationship with Sater:

New poll reveals the first word that comes to mind when Americans think of Trump
Marty Kaplan
09 JUL 2017 AT 09:14 ET
“What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Donald Trump?”
That’s the open-ended question a Quinnipiac poll asked Americans recently. The No. 1 answer: “idiot.”
Have you seen anything since then that would move the needle away from “idiot”? Or from “ignorant” ...more (the ninth most frequent answer), or “stupid” (12th)? He doesn’t know what’s in the Senate’s health care bill. He’s not reading his intelligence briefings. He’s watching more Fox News than your cranky uncle. His behavior seems engineered to provoke responses like, “Can you believe what an idiot/ignoramus/stupid person Trump is?”
Second on the Trump list, after “idiot,” comes “incompetent.” “Unqualified” is fifth; below that, “disaster” and “inexperienced” show up.
“Liar” comes in third in the poll; the related “dishonest” and “con-man” turn up lower down.
As the poll makes clear, Americans see Trump as an idiot, a liar and an—um, and a clown. That’s the baseline. There was no fresh news about his character in his tweet assaulting Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”; we already knew he’s irredeemably disgusting. His indifference to Vladimir Putin’s sabotage, his complicity in savaging Medicaid, his vendetta on truth and journalism: nothing new there, either. We already knew his narcissism is sociopathic.

A compendium of lies, baseless opinion and prejudicial nonsense whose first appearance dates all the way back to 2011. Nothing but another tedious and transparent attempt by the Right-Wing to divert attention from The Donald's disastrous behavior TODAY by focusing on irrelevant ANCIENT HISTORY.
Normal people ...more are appalled by the Far-Right's perseverate wallowing in fraudulent reminiscences while ignoring their idol's deranged daily behavior as he ricochets from one brainless Twitter post to the next.
And just breaking via the NYTimes: In a lying word salad little Donnie Jr. has admitted colluding with a Russian (pro-Kremlin) lawyer in a meeting also attended by Kushner and Manifort. A meeting he first denied ever having. A meeting set up by an (unnamed) "acquaintance" from the Miss Universe pageant. (Journalist Thomas Roberts, who was there as the master of ceremonies says Donnie Jr. wasn't even in Moscow). A meeting, on his first acknowledgement, ...more was about "Russian adoption by Americans". Then on a subsequent acknowledgement, it was about retrieving dirt on HRC allegedly collected by Russian intelligence. In other words, the story changes with each iteration which is the red in a red flag. Make no mistake, the covering up is now on steroids, and the frog march is getting longer by the day.

Indeed.
I particularly liked his brainstorm of having Putin and the Russian government cooperate with us in preventing the hacking of our elections. The reactions of senators from his own party was illustrative of the general consensus regarding The Donald's latest innovative proposal:
Sen. John McCain ...more opined that, " “I am sure that Vladimir Putin could be of enormous assistance in that effort since he’s doing the hacking.”
Sen. Lindsey Graham described Trump's truly novel concept as “not the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard but it’s pretty close.”
Sen. Mark Rubio described the idea colorfully - - - "Partnering with Putin on a 'Cyber Security Unit' is akin to partnering with Assad on a 'Chemical Weapons Unit.'"

Hereafter, when I hear the term "simple-minded", THIS episode will ever spring to mind.
(Perhaps Putin could help us secure our nuclear launch codes? We could ask Xi Jinping to collaborate too.)

Here's an idea.
In accord with The Donald's latest brainstorm, why doesn't the DNC turn over its servers to Putin?
That would insure an objective inquiry. (We all know that the FBI cannot be trusted.)
Court Rejects Most Arguments Raised By Canoe Place Inn PDD Opponents; Neighbors To Appeal Decision
Fifty-one percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 no longer support the system of capitalism.
It’s not only young voters who feel this way. A YouGov poll in 2015 found that 64% of Britons believe that capitalism is unfair, that it makes ...more inequality worse. Even in the U.S., it’s as high as 55%. In Germany, a solid 77% are skeptical of capitalism. Meanwhile, a full three-quarters of people in major capitalist economies believe that big businesses are basically corrupt.
It’s because people realize there’s something fundamentally flawed about a system that has a prime directive to churn nature and humans into capital.
That’s what capitalism is, at its root. We can see this in the imperative to grow GDP even though GDP growth, on its own, does nothing to reduce poverty or make people happier or healthier. Global GDP has grown 630% since 1980, and in that time, inequality, poverty, and hunger have all risen.
Millennials can see that capitalism isn’t working for the majority of humanity, and they’re ready to invent something better.
There are people in the U.S. fighting against the Keystone pipeline. There are people in Britain fighting against the privatization of the National Health Service. There are people in India fighting against corporate land grabs. There are people in Brazil fighting against the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. There are people in China fighting against poverty wages. These are noble and important movements in their own right. But by focusing on all these symptoms we risk missing the underlying cause. And the cause is capitalism.
What might a better world look like? There are a million ideas out there. We start by changing how we understand and measure progress. As Robert Kennedy famously said, GDP “does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play . . . it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.”
People want health care and education to be social goods, not market commodities, so we can choose to put public goods back in public hands. People want the fruits of production and the yields of our generous planet to benefit everyone, rather than being siphoned up by the super-rich, so we can change tax laws and introduce potentially transformative measures like a universal basic income. People want to live in balance with the environment on which we all depend for survival; so we can adopt regenerative agricultural solutions and even choose, as Ecuador did in 2008, to recognize in law that nature has “the right to exist, persist, maintain, and regenerate its vital cycles.”
None of this is actually radical. Our leaders will tell us that these ideas are not feasible, but what is not feasible is the assumption that we can carry on with the status quo. If we keep pounding on the wedge of inequality and chewing through our living planet, the whole thing is going to implode. The choice is stark, and it seems people are waking up to it in large numbers: Either we evolve into a future beyond capitalism, or we won’t have a future at all.

Here's how many Americans can't afford housing
By Ester Bloom
Almost 40 million Americans cannot afford to pay for housing. Home ownership has gone down and rental prices keep going up, meaning that millions of residents are forced to pay way more than they should.
Home ownership keeps declining, according to the Joint Center for Housing Studies' detailed and comprehensive ...more 2017 State of the Nation's Housing report, in part because homes prices in many markets have continued to go up while wages have not kept pace. In 2016, "the home ownership rate fell to 63.4 percent, marking the 12th consecutive year of declines."
A lot of people who would like to buy are stuck renting, Harvard reports: "The surge in rental demand that began in 2005 is broad-based — including several types of households that traditionally prefer home ownership."
At the same time, renting is more expensive, as "rent gains across the country continue to far outpace inflation." And supply is tight. Since most of the new units being built are at the high end, "the number of modestly priced units available for under $800 declined by 261,000 between 2005 and 2015, while the number renting for $2,000 or more jumped by 1.5 million."
Can't buy, can't rent. For a lot of people, especially in the pricey major metro areas where so many of the good jobs are, the situation looks grim. NBC News sums up the findings this way: "Over 38 million American households can't afford their housing, an increase of 146 percent in the past 16 years."
Even people lucky enough to own already aren't immune. Harvard reports that "the typical homeowner has yet to fully regain the housing wealth lost during the downturn." Although home values have gone up by as much as 40 percent in swaths of California, Florida and New England since 2000 — and, in 12 metro areas, have even doubled — they have remained stagnant or even gone down by as much as 46 percent in much of the South and the Midwest.
Can you afford housing? That depends largely on where you are. In terms of purchases, only 19 percent of residents of Honolulu, and only 25 percent of residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco, can afford to a buy median-priced home there.
This situation is particularly hard on the working poor. Across the country, "70.3 percent of lowest-income households face severe housing cost burdens," including "nearly nine out of 10 lowest-income renters" in places like Cape Coral and Las Vegas. That means more than 50 percent of their income must go toward housing and can't be used to either pay down debt or add up to savings.
And wth is an "anatchist"?
Wouldn't be a surprise, but am I right that to discern that you regard all the institutions listed in my answer as "capitalist" in nature?
You people cannot redefine what anti-capitalism means.
You're upset about fairness and the fact that some people have more than others.
That's not capitalism. That's life and envy is one of the seven deadly sins.
In fact, you can turn that argument around ...more on them by saying that when the Soviet Union dissolved and switched to capitalism, millions were thrown into poverty, the gdp immediately halved, and the communist party became popular enough again that the ruling elite and the US had to rig the 1996 election to prevent their victory. In other words, it is capitalism which is a nice idea, but only works in theory.
The post was in Reply to bigfresh who asked on July 14 at 5:56AM for an example of where a non-capitalist system worked. There is nothing to be concluded other than the historical fact outlined in the post.
Fresh's question implies the faulty assertion that capitalism is the only viable economic system. Variations of socialism exist in many developed countries--China, Ireland, the Scandinavian block, e.g. Now that we are living in a plutocracy with gross inequality and crony ...more capitalism, where workers have had no upward mobility for decades, where growth is stalled, and all gains have gone to the top, it is inevitable that our system would come under question. Much is different since the golden age of mid-twentieth century US capitalism, so only natural that reform/change would become necessary with healthcare alone Exhibit A.
The only real thing it has to do with Marx is that his name was put on it. For reference, the proletarii were part of ancient Roman Republic.
And according to all data, capitalism is only "working" for a small percentage of our society. A real capitalist would rise up against when a rigged system benefits the elite few.
If capitalism is working so well, why has the "middle class" been so severely ...more diminished across this nation?
Now, I'm not yearning for the USSR here - they had really awful policies in many places and were ruthless and uncompromising in the most horrible ways at times. But they weren't the complete failure that you've been told they were either.
Fast forward to their present (capitalist) system. Please do tell us how the Russian people are faring today?

Allegations of a "quid pro quo" deal giving Russia ownership of one-fifth of U.S. uranium deposits in exchange for $145 million in donations to the Clinton Foundation are unsubstantiated.
FALSE
ORIGIN
In the months leading up to the 2016 United States presidential election, stories abounded about the relationships between the Clinton ...more Foundation and various foreign entities.
May 2015 saw the publication of a book called Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich, an exposé of alleged Clinton Foundation corruption written by Peter Schweizer, a former Hoover Institution fellow and editor-at-large at the right-wing media company Breitbart.
A chapter in the book suggests that the Clinton family and Russia each may have benefited from a “pay-for-play” scheme while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, involving the transfer of U.S. uranium reserves to the new Russian owners of an international mining operation in exchange for $145 million in donations to the Clinton Foundation.
The mining company, Uranium One, was originally based in South Africa, but merged in 2007 with Canada-based UrAsia Energy. Shareholders there retained a controlling interest until 2010, when Russia’s nuclear agency, Rosatom, completed purchase of a 51% stake. Hillary Clinton played a part in the transaction because it involved the transfer of ownership of a material deemed important to national security — uranium, amounting to one-fifth of U.S. reserves — thus requiring the approval of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), on which the U.S. Secretary of State sits.
During the same time frame that the acquisition took place, Schweizer claims in Clinton Cash, the Clinton Foundation accepted contributions from nine individuals associated with Uranium One totaling more than $100 million. Among those who followed him in citing the transaction as an example of alleged Clinton corruption was GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who said during a June 2016 speech in New York City:
Hillary Clinton’s State Department approved the transfer of 20% of America’s uranium holdings to Russia, while nine investors in the deal funneled $145 million to the Clinton Foundation.
Trump’s campaign repeated the allegation in a September 2016 press release, and again in an October 2016 television ad stating that Clinton “gave American uranium rights to the Russians”:
The Uranium One deal was not Clinton’s to veto or approve
Among the ways these accusations stray from the facts is in attributing a power of veto or approval to Secretary Clinton that she simply did not have. Clinton was one of nine cabinet members and department heads that sit on the CFIUS, and the secretary of the treasury is its chairperson. CFIUS members are collectively charged with evaluating the transaction for potential national security issues, then turning their findings over to the president. By law, the committee can’t veto a transaction; only the president can. According to The New York Times, Clinton may not have even directly participated in the Uranium One decision. Then-Assistant Secretary of State Jose Fernandez, whose job it was to represent the State Dept. on CFIUS, said Clinton herself “never intervened” in committee matters.
Despite transfer of ownership, the uranium remained in the U.S.
A key fact ignored in criticisms of Clinton’s supposed involvement in the deal is that the uranium was not — nor could it be — exported, and remained under the control of U.S.-based subsidiaries of Uranium One, according to a statement by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission:
NRC’s review of the transfer of control request determined that the U.S. subsidiaries will
remain the licensees, will remain qualified to conduct the uranium recovery operations, and will continue to have the equipment, facilities, and procedures necessary to protect public health and safety and to minimize danger to life or property. The review also determined that the licensees will maintain adequate financial surety for eventual decommissioning of the sites. Neither Uranium One nor ARMZ holds an NRC export license, so no uranium produced at either facility may be exported.
The timing of most of the donations does not match
Of the $145 million allegedly contributed to the Clinton Foundation by Uranium One investors, the lion’s share — $131.3 million — came from a single donor, Frank Giustra, the company’s founder. But Giustra sold off his entire stake in the company in 2007, three years before the Russia deal and at least 18 months before Clinton became secretary of state.
Of the remaining individuals connected with Uranium One who donated to the Clinton Foundation, only one was found to have contributed during the same time frame that the deal was taking place, according to The New York Times — Ian Telfer, the company’s chairman:
His donations through the Fernwood Foundation included $1 million reported in 2009, the year his company appealed to the American Embassy to help it keep its mines in Kazakhstan; $250,000 in 2010, the year the Russians sought majority control; as well as $600,000 in 2011 and $500,000 in 2012. Mr. Telfer said that his donations had nothing to do with his business dealings, and that he had never discussed Uranium One with Mr. or Mrs. Clinton. He said he had given the money because he wanted to support Mr. Giustra’s charitable endeavors with Mr. Clinton. “Frank and I have been friends and business partners for almost 20 years,” he said.
The timing of Telfer’s donations might be questionable if there was reason to believe that Hillary Clinton was instrumental in the approval of the deal with Russia, but all the evidence points to the contrary — that Clinton did not play a pivotal role, and, in fact, may not have played any role at all.
Absent any further information, there is still no evidence of “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia.
In fact, the emails tend to suggest the opposite.
There is NO collusion !
Want to talk Treason!?
How about "After the election, I will have more latitude"?
How about Selling 20% of U.S. Uranium to Russia?
How about running guns to Mexico Drug Cartels?
How about - how did this "lawyer" get into the U.S. WITHOUT a Visa Loretta?
How about - her Visa expired over 5 months ago, HOW IS SHE STILL HERE????
Shall we go on???
There are tons more.
I just watched a Columbia Law Professor school CNN on why Donald Trump Jr. can not be guilty of " Treason," "Perjury," Or "Collusion"
It truly is a great time to be alive !
MAGA President Trump ! Drain that Swamp
It is not like they met on a runway or something innocent like that. I think Trump Jr. should just have wiped his server with a cloth and all would have been forgiven
im still waiting for a subpoena of loretta lynch, billy intern grabbing clinton, comey and crooked hillary regarding that meeting on the plane!
‘Collusion is the perfect word to cover such crimes’
John W. Dean was Richard Nixon’s White House counsel.
It was the fake legal analysis by Fox News in June—claiming that “collusion” with a foreign government violated no law—that prompted me to look. Surely Fox knows it fooled only fools. Collusion is the descriptive word the news media has settled on to cover many potential illegal actions by the Trump campaign, which could range ...more from aiding and abetting (18 USC 2) to conspiracy per se (18 USC 371) to conspiring to violate several potentially applicable laws like: 18 USC 1030—fraud and related activity in connection with computers; 18 USC 1343—wire fraud; or 52 USC 30121—contributions and donations by foreign nationals. Also, 18 USC 2381—for, contrary to a widespread belief that there must be a declared war, the Justice Department as recently as 2006 indicted for “aid and comfort” to our enemies, the form of collusion better known as treason. Collusion is the perfect word to cover such crimes, pejorative and inclusive.
Drain The Swamp Baby and Drain It Dry This Time !
Its been well over 80 years since we had a non corrupt small representative republic and we want it back.
MEGA!

But why are we talking about substantive matters that actually affect our lives (and our country's sovereignty) TODAY instead of ruminating on the ancient history to which the Right-Wing would RATHER direct our attention (and away from the inept daily behavior of The-Gang-That-Couldn't-Shoot-Straight?)
Why don't you try and curl up with a good book this weekend ... Milo Yiannopoulos’ Dangerous hit #2 on the NYT best seller list this week, I know the media has been downplaying its sales but It may help to take your mind off the election for a spell. If that does not work may I suggest a tall Manhattan and a round of Frisbee ...more with the neighborhood children.

"Now now Hat head... you know very well that collusion is not a crime."
---------------------------------------------------------
"Collusion actually is a political term; there's no line in the criminal code that says you go to jail for colluding with a foreign adversary.
But you can go to jail for CONSPIRING with a foreign adversary to influence or undermine an election, and Jacobovitz [a white-collar lawyer who represented officials ...more in the Clinton White House] thinks what Trump Jr. did, as documented by emails he himself shared on Twitter, could rise to that level.
'Absolutely,' Jacobovitz replied when asked if these emails firm up evidence that Trump Jr. had intent to commit a crime by CONSPIRING with the Russians. 'You may have crossed the line on CONSPIRACY to commit election fraud or CONSPIRACY to obtain information from a foreign adversary,' he said. 'You cannot benefit from a foreign adversary in this kind of scenario.'
Other legal minds agree. 'It's a shocking admission of a criminal CONSPIRACY,' said Jens David Ohlin, associate dean of Cornell Law School, in a statement shared with The Post. 'The conversation will now turn to whether President Trump was personally involved or not. But the question of the campaign's involvement appears settled now. The answer is yes.'" (emphases added)*

The duplicitous Right-Wing simply cannot resist an opportunity to mislead the public, despite the fact that (as here) its clumsy deceptions are ALWAYS brought to light.

Muslim American activist Linda Sarsour has fired back at critics for misrepresenting her use of the term “jihad” in her keynote address for the Islamic Society of North America earlier this month.
In the July 1 speech, Sarsour shared a story from Islamic scripture concerning a man who asked Mohammed, the prophet of Islam, about the “best form of jihad.” “And our beloved prophet … said to him, ‘A word of truth in front of a tyrant ruler or leader, that is the best form of jihad,’” Sarsour told the crowd.
Sarsour urged fellow Muslims to “stand up to those who oppress our communities,” as “we are struggling against tyrants and rulers not only abroad in the Middle East or on the other side of the world, but here in these United States of America.”
But after edited video of the event began to circulate online, Sarsour received a barrage of criticism and threats, a result of conservative media publications like Breitbart and the Daily Caller accusing her of encouraging fellow Muslims to incite a “holy war” against the Trump administration.
Even Donald Trump Jr. got involved, retweeting a Fox News story titled “Activist Linda Sarsour Calls for 'Jihad' Against Trump Administration,” adding, “Who in the @DNC will denounce this activist and democrat leader calling for Jihad [against] trump?”
Now Sarsour is pushing back against these critics. In a July 9 op-ed for the Washington Post, she writes that the term “jihad” has “been hijacked by Muslim extremists and right-wing extremists alike, leaving ordinary Muslims to defend our faith.”
“In my speech ... I sent not a call to violence, but a call to speak truth to power and to commit to the struggle for racial and economic justice,” Sarsour explains. “Most disturbing about this recent defamation campaign is how it is focused on demonizing the legitimate yet widely misunderstood Islamic term I used, ‘jihad,’ which to a majority of Muslims and according to religious scholars means ‘struggle’ or ‘to strive for.’”
Sarsour’s argument, that her use of ‘jihad’ was both nonviolent and taken out of context, is one the overwhelming majority of Muslims around the world share. But while her use of ‘jihad’ may not have been intentionally harmful, the multifaceted term has been widely interpreted by Islamophobes and extremists alike as violent.
The complex definition of “jihad,” and its distortion over the past 15 years, complicates the fight of Muslim Americans like Sarsour to reclaim it
The Palestinian-American activist and co-organizer of the Women’s March on Washington has received a lot of attention in recent months. Some of that has been praise for her involvement in the anti-Trump resistance movement, as well as her efforts to raise more than $160,000 to repair a Jewish cemetery that was vandalized in St. Louis, Missouri.
Sarsour’s career took off following the 9/11 attacks, but her more recent efforts to address the country’s Islamophobic backlash have catapulted her into the national spotlight and made her a consistent target of what she identifies as “the Islamophobia industry.”
New York magazine and Mother Jones contributing writer Yashar Ali acknowledged that Sarsour’s use of the term would surely be distorted from its actual meaning. “You can’t use the word jihad anymore. You just can’t. Not in the US,” he tweeted.
While some define “jihad” as terrorism and the desire to “wage holy war,” executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Nihad Awad argued in a 2015 op-ed for his organization’s site that its current use is “terribly inaccurate.”
He continued:
In recent years, we have seen the term “jihadist” come to be used as if it means a person who kills people out of a religious motivation. But ... “Jihad” does not mean “holy war.” Literally, jihad means to “struggle,” strive and exert effort. It is a central and broad Islamic concept that includes struggle against evil inclinations within oneself, struggle to improve the quality of life in society, struggle in the battlefield for self-defense (e.g., — having a standing army for national defense), or fighting against tyranny or oppression.
“Islam allows legitimate self defense, but prohibits the killing of innocent people, even in times of war or conflict,” Awad wrote. “So yes, there are some Muslims who have extreme views, or mental illnesses, or political grievances, or a host of other reasons that lead them to kill people, and this is not only a tragedy and a crime but an egregious violation of the principles of Islam.”
The events of the past two weeks have forced the Brooklyn-based Sarsour to “think about securing my physical safety even while walking through the neighborhoods of Brooklyn,” she notes.
“It saddens me deeply that my three children are frightened,” she writes. “But I refuse to be intimidated. I will not walk away from the people and communities whom I love deeply. ... Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, and I intend to continue to push my country to respect the rights of all its citizens. I will not be silenced.”
In the end, this controversy highlights how far we still have to go when it comes to understanding Islam, as well as Muslims in America and around the world.
CNN NBC/MSNBC gave Hildabeast Advance Questions, Refuse to cover Kick Backs From Russia for Selling Uranium, Benghazi was about nothing, Reset with Russia...
Corrupt MSM makes Russian attempts to Disrupt our Democracy look like Amateurs.
And yet, two years later, Hillary Clinton has never once been asked about this controversial uranium deal by the national media. It never came up during the many Democratic Party presidential debates; never during any of her media appearances on cable news or network television; never by print journalists who are covering her campaign.
Joe is right, You are wrong and that is the end of the story!
That sure does look like due diligence to me, why don't you run those facts through the corrupt snopes filter and see what you come up with.

MAGA
It is not just the State Department which must render approval in the matter. There are at least EIGHT other agencies which must approve as well. secretaries of the Treasury (the chairman of the committee), Defense, Justice, Commerce, Energy and Homeland Security, and the heads of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. The deal also had to be approved by the independent ...more Nuclear Regulatory Commission and lastly by Utah’s nuclear regulator. Secondly, Russia and by proxy Uranium One does not hold the licenses to export nuclear material out of the United States. So stating that it's Russia's is just plain stupid. GOP par for the course. Even the donations you try to tie in as quid pro quo were made years before Clinton was Secretary of State. Even your hero Schweitzer stated in his book there was no evidence of quid pro quo.
And, just so you know, Kazakhstan is the world's largest producer of Uranium. Russia has plenty.
Your stupidity has eclipsed your ignorance.
First you cite a false report from Right-Wing propaganda organs claiming that an innocent Muslim woman called for a "war" against The Donald. Then you proclaim that she should have appreciated your ignorance and dumbed-down her innocent comment to your abysmal level of comprehension so that you didn't misunderstand her. Then you top off this mindless retort with ...more a scurrilous, nonsensical screed from yet another Right-Wing propaganda organ delineating a wholly fictitious outline of Muslim plans for the conquest of the Christendom.
Here's a tip for you on behalf of the the Right-Wingers with more than two brain cells to rub together which they would be too courteous to offer:
"Shut up! You're embarrassing us!"
We are in the middle a cold civil war, a war between Junes fake news media and the American people.
The MSM is still trying to steal the election. Every fake news story is another part of the attempt to steal the election. This cold civil war is broader than that. It is a struggle between two sides. One is those who want to "transform" America into a top-down society ruled by a political and cultural ...more elite through a "deep state," or elaborate, permanent bureaucracy controlled and at least in part manned by them, which decides everything including what rights individuals have. The other is those who want to restore the bottom-up free society we were founded to be, in which consensus rises up from among the people, who have inherent, inalienable rights, and who tell a government with carefully limited powers what to do, a government that is of, by, and for the people - in short, the system that made America great.
The record of other top-down societies around the world and throughout history is very bad. In general, the nearer countries, including ours, come to our founding ideals, the better they tend to be. I want us to maintain our founding principles and restore them to the primacy they deserve, so we can go on being a great country.
Electing Trump, who managed to become standard-bearer for this side, was a great victory. But it was not enough. The would-be ruling establishment still controls Congress, through the Democratic Party and the GOP establishment. We need to change that. Next year will be critical.
We need to do everything possible to replace RINOs with Constitutionalists in the GOP primaries (the Democrats are hopeless), and replace Democrats with Republicans in November. Please, think what you can do, and then do it. This matters.
Dear me, "I" don't want you to shut up! I LOVE your posts. Every time a thoughtful person reads your lying bushwa (as in the posts about the Muslim woman) or your nonsensical cant (as in this post), he realizes that the country has been hijacked by fools. The LAST thing that I want you to do is shut up.
(58% of citizens disapprove of The Donald's job performance in the latest poll. With your help and that of your fellow devotees, it will only get ...more worse.)
Bring it on, PLEASE!
Sorry if I have mislead you. I hope that The Donald will win the Republican nomination because he will certainly lose the presidential election, enabling the Democratic Party to secure the presidency (and, perhaps, a senatorial majority with a turkey like The Donald at the head of the ticket.) It could only be better if this egomaniac opted to wage a third-party contest after the mainstream Republicans screw him out of the nomination. THAT might ...more result in a Democratic majority in the House as well!
Go - - - THE DONALD!!!

As I said, "bring it on!" It is mindless drivel of this sort that the conscientious citizen will ...more read and which will cause him to realize that Trump is the spawn of delusional true believers who long ago replaced intransigent reason with soothing (fanatical) belief.

'A serious criminal investigation is required'

WASHINGTON – More than eight months after Hillary Clinton’s election loss, her use of a private email server and other conduct during her tenure as U.S. secretary of state continue to haunt her.
A newly released batch of documents obtained by Judicial Watch showcases numerous instances of Clinton Foundation donors receiving ...more favors from the State Department.
In one email exchange, Huma Abedin, Clinton’s former deputy chief of staff in the State Department and longtime aide, negotiated who the next the U.S. ambassador to Barbados would be after Clinton Global Initiative executive Doug Band recommended a candidate to fill the position.
“I know, he’s emailed a few times,” Abedin said in reply to Band’s request. “But she wants to give someone else.”
Another exchange shows Band instructing Abedin to “show love” to Andrew Liveris, CEO of Dow Chemical.
Judicial Watch pointed out Dow gave between $1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.

Band also pushed for Hillary Clinton to do a favor for Karlheinz Koegel, a major Clinton Foundation contributor, who wanted the secretary of state to give the “honor speech” for his media prize to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The emails show Tony Rodham, Clinton’s brother, acted as a liaison between Abedin and Korean businessman and Clinton Foundation donor Richard Park. Rodham facilitated the State Department’s approval of an invitation to President Bill Clinton to speak at a North Korean industrial complex that allegedly funds the country’s rogue nuclear program.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton argued the newly released documents substantiate accusations that Clinton and her team engaged in criminality.
“I’m not sure how much more evidence of pay for play, classified information mishandling and influence peddling from Clinton’s email server one would need to show a serious criminal investigation is required,” Fitton said.
To obtain the documents, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in May 2015 against the State Department requesting “all emails of official State Department business received or sent by former Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin from Jan. 1, 2009, through Feb. 1, 2013, using a non-‘state.gov’ email address.”
Bill Clinton’s $48 million speaking tour
Bill Clinton frequently addressed foreign governments and entities that had interests pending before his wife’s State Department. He successfully sought State Department approval for 215 speeches while she served as secretary of state, earning $48 million on the speaking circuit during her tenure, reported the Washington Examiner.
Donors of the Clinton Global Initiative also wielded influence in Clinton’s State Department by requesting the department expedite U.S. visas for foreign nationals, Judicial Watch found.
In the new batch of emails, Clinton donor Ben Ringel contacted Abedin and requested that she help an Iranian woman obtain a U.S. visa, writing, “We need to get her clearance even only temporary to be with her granddaughter.”
Band also used Abedin to help Canadian Clinton donor Michael Cohl obtain a visa.
In both instances, Abedin acquiesced and forwarded the email requests.
Jeopardizing national security, Abedin, in some instances, forwarded emails to her unsecured account with information pertaining to former President Obama’s daily schedule, Clinton’s schedule, “foreign governments” and “national defense or foreign policy.”
“Other emails found in Abedin’s unsecure email account appear to show additional instances of the Clinton State Department’s lax approach to protecting national security,” Judicial Watch said.
According to the Washington watchdog, information regarding “federal preparedness and response for an international terrorist threat to the United States,” “The Secretary’s Phone Call with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang” and “The Secretary’s Phone Call with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov” were also sent to the unsecured email server.
Failed to turn over 439 emails
During the FBI investigation of Clinton’s private email server, the former secretary of state released 55,000 pages of emails and pledged under oath “that as far as she knew” she had turned over all of her government documents.
However, contradicting Clinton’s sworn declaration, the pages Judicial Watch released include six email exchanges she failed to turn over to the State Department, bringing the known total of emails she excluded to more than 439.
On July 11, Judicial Watch released 42 pages of highly redacted documents from the FBI’s criminal investigation into Clinton’s mishandling of high classified materials that were marked “grand jury material.”
According to the documents, Clinton private attorney Katherine Turner handed over Clinton’s non-secure Apple iPads and two of her Blackberrys to the FBI but took out the SIM cards of the devices.
A total of 13 mobile devices identified by the FBI as potentially using clintonemail.com addresses were never located by Clinton’s lawyers, Fitton told Fox News.
“The Trump Justice Department needs to audit this mess and figure out if the Clinton matters need to be reopened or reinvigorated,” Fitton said.
Fitton contends Clinton should undergo another criminal investigation for “influence peddling” and mishandling classified information. And he is calling for a federal investigation of Clinton’s 2016 campaign chairman, John Podesta.
Podesta served on the board of a company that received at least $35 million from a Russian investment group that was created and funded by the Kremlin, investigator and author Peter Schweizer told the New York Post.
While the Trump administration has been subjected to an ongoing probe into its alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election, little attention has been given to Podesta’s Russia ties.
“If the standard is if you’re talking to the Russians and doing business with the Russians you need to be investigated, [then] John Podesta fits the bill to a T,” Fitton argued Friday on the Fox Business Network’s “The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan.”
“He served on a board with Russian government officials,” said Fitton. “His board, his company took $35 million out of $110 million raised from a Russia-centered organization, or state organization.”
"Trump’s alleged mob dealings were not confined to New York. According to reports from the Huffington Post and Philadelphia Inquirer, Trump made a deal in Atlantic City with Kenneth Shapiro, an associate of mob boss Nicky Scarfo, and mob-connected labor boss Daniel Sullivan.
Trump seemed aware of this, calling Shapiro "a third-rate, local real estate mafia" and Sullivan "the guy ...more who killed Jimmy Hoffa."
Nonetheless, in 1981, Trump leased a portion of the land for Trump Plaza and Casino from a company the two men controlled, according a report by New Jersey gaming regulators. The company refused to cooperate with the authorities, and Trump eventually ended the partnership and bought out their shares.
Later Trump brought on Sullivan as a labor negotiator at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and introduced the man to his own banker, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Through intermediaries Trump bought the property for the casino from the "crown prince" of the Philadelphia mob, Salvatore Testa, for $1.1 million in 1982. Multiple media reports and an unauthorized biography about Trump allege this was more than twice its market value. (Testa purchased the property in 1977 for $195,000.)
According to The Federalist, two construction companies controlled by Nicky Scarfo ended up building Trump Plaza and Casino.
"You had contractors that were supposedly mob-oriented all over Atlantic City," Trump said when the Wall Street Journal asked him about it, adding that "every single casino company used the same companies, just I hope you will say that."
A few years later, Trump’s organized crime connections extended overseas. In 1992, a Senate subcommittee named Danny Leung, who was then the vice president for foreign marketing at Trump Taj Mahal, as an associate of the Hong Kong-based organized crime group 14K Triad.
"Leung has also given complimentary tickets for hotel rooms and Asian shows to numerous members and associates of Asian organized crime," reads the report, which also identified three other triad-connected business associates or former employees of Trump’s gambling empire.
According to gaming regulators, Leung "flew in 16 Italian organized crime figures from Canada who stole more than $1 million from the casino in a credit scam," reported the New York Daily News in 1995. "The incident was never reported because Trump never filed charges."
Leung, who had a separate contract to bring gamblers from Toronto to the casino, denied the affiliation to organized crime, and his casino and junket licenses were renewed. (The Trump Taj Mahal declared bankruptcy in 1991, and his other Atlantic City properties folded a decade later.)
Mob-linked business adviser
And there’s Felix Sater, "a twice-convicted Russian émigré who served prison time and had documented mafia connections" and the subject of the ABC story Cruz referenced.
Sater pleaded guilty to a charge of money laundering in 1998 and was indicted again in 2000 for taking part in a $40 million stock scheme involving four Mafia families, according to the New York Times report.
From 2003 to 2007, Sater traveled the country promoting projects for Trump, and his company was a partner in the Trump SoHo hotel. Trump told the Times he "never knew that."
Three years later, Sater returned to the Trump Organization and had business cards that described him as Trump’s "senior advisor," the AP reported. Trump told the AP that he’s "not familiar" with Sater."

Yet another plagiarized article from a thoroughly discredited Right-Wing news manufactory, "WND", deliberately unattributed by 27dan in order to disguise its completely untrustworthy origin. The article, in turn, cites "Judicial Watch" as a source, a website which most recently disgraced itself by publishing ...more a fabricated story about the IRS giving preferential tax treatment to "After School Satan" clubs.
What does the Far-Right think that it gains by pushing this silly, prejudicial twaddle? The fact is that the Republicans control the legislative and executive branches of government. If they think there is ANYTHING actionable in all this hogwash, they WILL direct the Justice Dept. to investigate.
(Don't hold your breath.)
Meanwhile, back in the realm of SUBSTANTIVE news, the inept, psychopathic GOP leadership now advocates stripping 32 million Americans of their health insurance by repealing Obamacare without any plan to replace it, a proposal that would cause premiums on individual market policies to increase by up to 25% the first year.

We were made aware of the following message from Anna Johnson. Her husband, United States Marine Gunnery Sgt. Brendan Johnson, died in a military plane crash along with 15 others last week in Mississippi. So far, all Donald Trump has done to acknowledge their deaths was a tweet that said:
"Marine Plane crash in Mississippi is heartbreaking. Melania and I send our deepest condolences to all!"
That's ...more it. And for Anna Johnson, that's just not enough from the Commander in Chief. Here is her message:

I am a wife of one of the fallen Marines on July 10. I am writing to you, because, I hope you can help me. As you being such a military advocate I hope you can understand my frustrations.
A. My husband and his "brothers" deserve MORE than a tweet!!! I don't know how to get through to tell this president and congress how insulted I am for that? He could have had a press conference, a written statement. Anything BUT a tweet?? I want someone to tell this president and country how my heart aches that he is so disrespectful. My husband is worth more than a tweet.
B. Their ranks. I have sent some news stations the correct ranks so they can change them when they are printed wrong. No reply, nothing. Here is a list of their names and proper ranks. I want other news stations that put out wrong rank information, to understand that not getting this right, is ignorant. They EARN rank! In the USMC, a Sgt. is different than a Staff Sgt. or a Gunny Sgt.. Please help me set the record straight. Here is a list of their names and ranks.
I'll not even mention the flags not being at half-mast, but if you could help the country understand how hurtful all this is. I know the likelihood of no one reading this, but I have to try.
Thank you.

THE JUICE …
-- BUZZ: KARL ROVE told an off-the-record McDonald’s corporate conference Monday in D.C. that he would not have taken a meeting with Russian operatives, like Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner did. Rove told the crowd at the J.W. Marriott that if a campaign gets an email saying an agent of a foreign adversarial government wants to meet and pass on damaging information about an opponent, they shouldn’t take the meeting, ...more and they should call the FBI. In a presidential campaign, Rove said, aides get lots of phone calls and emails offering tips on the opponent. Most should be routed through opposition researchers, and many are not worth the time.
