Walter H. Pomasanoff Of Eastport Dies March 16

Walter Harry Pomasanoff died on March 16, 2018, at his home in Eastport, surrounded by his family. He was 83.

Mr. Pomasanoff was born in Eastport on September 29,1934, to Peter and Nellie (Privett) Pomasanoff. After graduating from Eastport High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He returned home and served for a short time in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. He became a Southampton Town police officer in 1958 and retired as a lieutenant after 21 years of service.

He was a member of the Southampton Town Police Benevolent Association and the Superior Officers Association; Suffolk County Police Association; a Director for the Suffolk County Police Conference; and the Retired Police Association of the State of New York.

He was also a member of the Potunk Lodge Masons; Long Island Scottish Rites; Seatuck Sportsman’s Association, a Board of Education member of the Eastport School District, and also a member of the Eastport Cemetery Association.

He was a proud member of the Eastport Fire Department for 65 years and just recently completed serving as fire commissioner for the past 34 years.

Mr. Pomasanoff loved life and enjoyed his family and friends, hunting, fishing, tractors, gardening and restoring his 1951 Army Jeep, survivors said.

Mr. Pomasanoff is survived by his wife, Judith (Lilly); daughters, Susan Dotson (Bob), Sharon Murray (Jay Bobby), and Leanne Plum (Erich); grandchildren, Brandon Shepley, Kaelin Shepley, Athan Dotson and Spencer Plum; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth Chucuy and Isabella Shepley; sisters, Marie Kelley, June Haughn and Arlene Dougherty. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on March 20 and 21. A funeral service is set for Thursday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at the Eastport Firehouse.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of April 25

Michael Martin, 58, of Montclair, New Jersey, was arrested by Southampton Town Police on April 22 at 1:02 a.m. on Old Riverhead Road in Northampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.
