Florence A. Germano, known to many as “Florrie,” died at her East Hampton home on April 16 of kidney disease. Shew as 92.
Mrs. Germano was born Faustina Ann Mongelli on February 17, 1924, in Manhattan, to Joseph and Marie (Nicoletta) Mongelli. She was the eldest of five children. She married Erasmo German, who predeceased her, on April 1, 1944 and they raised their three sons in Flushing, Queens. As a family, they began spending summers in East Hampton in 1962 and returned to their East Hampton home in 1990.
Mrs. Germano was an avid quilter. Upon moving to East Hampton, she became a member of the Harbor Quilters Group. Survivors said she enjoyed her time with the members and working on the many joint projects for local fundraising events. She also enjoyed gourmet cooking, entertaining and especially gardening; she could often be seen attending to her flowers, herbs and landscape.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Friscia and Pam O’Berne; and a borther, Joseph Mongelli Jr. She is survived by her three sons, Peter Germano of East Hampton, George Germano of Garden City, Robert Germano of Syosset; a brother, Robert Mongelli of Flushing; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Hme in East Hampton on Friday, April 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton; burial will follow at the church cemetery.
