Christine Maura Dunleavy of New York City, formerly of Amityville, died on April 22, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 58 and the cause of death was Huntington’s Disease, a hereditary disease marked by degeneration of the brain cells; it has symptoms of Alzheimer’s, ALS and Parkinson’s disease simultaneously. Ms. Dunleavy lost her sister, mother and other relatives to the disease.
She was predeceased by her parents, the late Patrick and Dorothy Dunleavy; and a sister, Dorothy Dunleavy. She is survived by her siblings, Anne Derrick and husband Bruce of Maryland, Terry Struble and husband Walter of East Hampton, Mary Dunleavy of Connecticut, Patrick Dunleavy and wife Debbie of Colorado; and nieces and nephews, Ben Derrick of North Carolina, Sam Reilley of Brooklyn, Luke Dunleavy of Florida, Ryan Struble of East Hampton, Sara Ritsi of Montauk, and Erin and Jason Dunleavy of Huntington.
A funeral Mass was held on April 26 at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church in Amityville.
