Harry Jones of Southampton died on January 25.
Born on May 15, 1933, in Southampton, he attended Southampton Schools, was a star on the football team and developed lifelong friendships with some of his teammates. While in high school, he worked at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
After graduation, he married Mary David and the couple had two children, Reagan and Brenda, both of whom survive. He served in the U.S. Army from February, 1953, to October, 1956, and in 2013, received a certificate recognizing his military serve. He went to work for Southampton Tire upon his return, where he remained for 25 years.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 91 in Riverhead. Survivors said he was an admired member within the organization. He most recently resided at the John Wesley Village in Riverhead. As his health declined, he was admitted to the Riverhead Care Center, where he was the president of the Resident Care Council and continued to play bingo every day. His cousin, Mason, faithfully picked up Mr. Jones’s daily Lotto picks.
Mr. Jones was predeceased by his mother, Archenetta Arrington Jones. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lynn Seymore; four grandchildren, Daniel, Jeanette, Johndre and Tye; five great-grandchildren, Alie, Maurice, Kovonta, Kavon and Malik; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
