Robert B. Rush of Southampton died at his home on April 7. He was 85.
Known as “Bob,” Mr. Rush was born on November 19, 1929, in Chicago to Pearl and John P. Rush. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana and then served in the U.S. Army for several years, including a time in Germany. Mr. Rush enjoyed a long, distinguished career in journalism and media, including reporting for United Press International and as vice president of two divisions of the National Broadcasting Company. He also served as director of broadcast services for Dow Jones & Company.

In his retirement, he enjoyed swimming in the ocean, walking his dogs on the beach and riding his bicycle to the inlet and back as fast as he could—something he continued to do well into his 70s.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rush is survived by a son, Robert Jr.; daughters, Regina and Nancy; sisters, Marion and Patsy; and stepsons, Michael and Duer Meehan.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Southampton on Saturday, May 2, at 11 a.m.
