Carmen Rose Sweeney of Mattituck died at her home on October 19. She was 83 and was an owner of Southampton Auto & Marine Upholstery.
Born in Manhattan on July 31, 1932, to Joseph Peter and Anna (Araujo) Quintana, she married Philip Sweeney in Queens on July 26, 1953. A communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Mattituck, she had also been a member of Sacred Heart School Mother’s Club, Cellar Square Dancing Club, North Fork Theatre and Sweet Adelines. She had also been a Cub Scout den mother.
Survivors said being with family, especially her grandchildren, was her greatest joy.
Predeceased by her husband, Philip, son Kenneth and great-grandson Ian, she is survived by her sons, Philip T. Sweeney and wife Tricia of Texas, Steven R. Sweeney and wife Kim of Mattituck, and Michael J. Sweeney and wife Nancy of Laurel; siblings Sara Arp and Robert Quintana, both of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Natalie McTaggert and husband Johnny, Michael Sweeney Jr., Christopher Binnion, Rachael Haase and husband Robert and Stephanie Zuhoski and husband William; and three great-grandchildren, Trey, Devin and Robert.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 23, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church; the Reverend Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt will officiate.
