Stanley P. Buttonow Jr. of Southampton died at home on September 4, 2018. He was 94. Born July 15, 1924, in Southampton, he was a lifelong resident and married Mildred T. Bafundo in 1959. Together they built one of the first homes on Rosko Drive in Southampton Village in 1963.
Mr. Buttonow was a land surveyor for Squires and Holden for many years. He was a dedicated member of the Southampton Fire Department for 50 years, serving with the Hook & Ladder Co. and the Heavy Rescue Squad.
An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Southampton Golf Club, and, as a young man, he caddied at National Golf Links, which got him interested in golf. He and his wife enjoyed golfing together locally and traveled to many golf courses around the country.
Mr. Buttonow also enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. He had a woodworking shop at his home, where he enjoyed making many pieces of furniture and cabinetry.
Predeceased by his wife, Mildred; and two sisters, Agatha Janik and Dolores Buttonow; he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Steve Greenlaw; two grandchildren, Danielle Hammond and Matthew Hammond; a sister, Cornelia Buttonow; a niece, Marie Jackson; and a nephew, Ken Janik.
Visitation was held on September 7 at O’Connell-Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on September 8 at Our Lady of Poland Church in Southampton, followed by burial at Sacred Hearts Cemetery, also in Southampton.
