Mildred Finnegan of Southampton died on May 11 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family. She was 93.
Ms. Finnegan was born January 25, 1921, to Francis and Elizabeth (Schweikart) McElearney in Brooklyn. She graduated from Bryant High School and then from Grace Institute. On August 1, 1943, she married William B. Finnegan.
After raising their children in Wantagh, they relocated to the family summer house in Bay View Oaks, Southampton, in 1968. Ms. Finnegan enjoyed a 20-year career as the secretary to Southampton Village Police Department chiefs Donald Finlay and James Sherry, until her retirement in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pellegrino and husband Alan; a son, Kevin Finnegan and wife Diane; four grandchildren, Christopher and wife Jodi Pellegrino of Oregon, Pamela and husband Brian Blackburn of Southampton; Brian Finnegan of Southampton and Jennie Finnegan of Southampton; and three great-grandchildren, Piper and Cricket Pellegrino of Oregon and Samuel Blackburn of Southampton.
Ms. Finnegan was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Bill; and a brother, Francis McElearney.
A funeral Mass was held on May 16 at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church, followed by a private cremation. O’Connell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
