Douglas L. Bormuth
Douglas L. Bormuth of Southampton died at Southampton Hospital on Thursday, December 22. He was 82.
Mr. Bormuth was born December 9, 1929, to Harry P. and Helen Bormuth (née Libby), and graduated from Southampton High School in 1948. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for one year. He graduated from Rider College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, and was hired by the accounting firm of Peat, Marwich, Mitchel & Co. (now KMPG LLC) for a position in its Manhattan office. In 1957 he joined his father’s accounting firm where he continued to work until his death.
Mr. Bormuth was an active member of the Southampton Rotary Club for 30 years and served as treasurer for seven years. He was also a longtime founding member of the Southampton Golf Club and served as recording secretary for 32 years. He was also secretary-treasurer of the Southampton Cemetery Association from 1982 until his death.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Jr. and his wife Nancy, and Barbara Lynn Bennett all of Southampton; a sister, Janet Snider of Fairport; grandchildren, Stephanie and Robin Bormuth, Loren James III, Dylan and Lily Bennett; and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne (née Hildreth), and a brother, Robert.
The family received friends on Monday, December 26, at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service followed on Tuesday, December 27, also at Brockett, the Reverend Dr. Richard Boyer officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Edgewood Cemetery in Bridgehampton.
