Andrew Zak of Hampton Bays died on April 23 after a long battle with cancer. He was 68.
Mr. Zak was born to Steven and Rhoda Zak, both of whom predeceased him, on December 21, 1946, in Brooklyn. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Southampton College in 1969, and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from C.W. Post in 1972. For more than 30 years, he was a special education teacher at Eastern Suffolk Board of Cooperative Educational Services, retiring in 2001.
Survivors said he enjoyed being with his family and was an avid boater, had his private pilot’s license, and enjoyed extensive travels through Europe. Mr. Zak is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia; two sons, John and Greg; daughter in-law, Hillary; and future daughter-in-law, Donna. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Tyler and Chloe, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda. He also leaves behind his dog, Strider.
Visitation was at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on April 27. A funeral took place on April 28, also at the funeral home. Interment followed at Westchester Hills Cemetery.
