Mary Ann Igel Dies At Age 90

Mary Ann Igel of Hampton Bays died on December 17 at the Westhampton Care Center in Westhampton. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, in 1920 to Jennie and Luther Douglas, she spent much of her life in the Parkchester community in the Bronx, but was a frequent visitor of her sister, Jean Siebold, and her family in Hampton Bays.

She and her husband George Igel owned and operated a car dealership in Yonkers and after the death of her husband in 1973, Ms. Igel returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University in 1975. During her career, she worked as a commercial property manager as well as bursar for Columbia University School of Law.

She was very active in the Catholic church, was a member of the Catholic Daughters of St. Rosalie’s, and also volunteered as a reader for the blind for many years at the Lighthouse in Manhattan. She was also a docent for St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

Ms. Igel travelled to many parts of the world during her life and enjoyed shopping, especially for her many extended family members.

Ms. Igel is survived by her brother-in-law, John Siebold; her cousin Michael Fitzmaurice, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Siebold; and her husband George Igel.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home and funeral services were held December 20 at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays. The services were attended by family, friends and members of the Catholic Daughters and clergy.
