Salvatore J. Catena of Hampton Bays died at his home on August 7. He was 91.
Mr. Catena served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the produce manager for the Gristedes market in Southampton up until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara (Carter), three children, Jeffrey and wife Nanette of Hampton Bays, Frank and wife Sheila of North Carolina, and Susan Hoover of Hampton Bays. A son-in-law, Dale Hoover, predeceased him. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jill Matos, Joshua Flannery, Kristen Ciemencki, Kaelin Catena, Meghan Menedez and Katie Catena; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Pace of Deer Park and Anne Ranicki of the Bronx.
Visitation was on August 9 at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays, with a prayer service conducted by Deacon Chris Ervin of the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays. Burial followed with military honors at Good Ground Cemetery, also in Hampton Bays.
