The Neo-Political Cowgirls are seeking volunteers to help present their annual outdoor winter event, “ZIMA!” — Polish for “winter” — which brings together costumed actors and dancers along an illuminated path at LongHouse Reserve. Performances will take place on November 28 and 29, and December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 31. Each evening requires at least six volunteers to assist with guiding visitors along the path, supporting performers, welcoming the audience, and helping introduce the interactive riddle element of the show. The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) is calling on the creativity of local young artists with the launch of its 2025 Holiday Card Contest. Open to all students in grades six through 12, the contest invites participants to design ARF’s official holiday card, spreading cheer while celebrating the animals waiting for adoption at the ARF Adoption Center. This year’s challenge: Create a festive design featuring one ARF dog and one ARF cat currently available for adoption. The East Hampton Library will host the final event in its 2025 Tom Twomey Series on Saturday, November 8, with “Biography as Pilgrimage: On the Trail of Peter Matthiessen.” The program is co-sponsored by The Peter Matthiessen Center. Author Lance Richardson will discuss his eight-year project, which included a 200-mile trek in the Himalayas, to write a biography of the late Peter Matthiessen, whose work championed Native American rights and helped shape the modern environmental movement. The documentary “The Bonackers” will screen at the Amagansett Life Saving Station on Atlantic Avenue on Saturday, October 25, at 5 p.m. The event will open with David Cataletto and his crew performing sea shanties, followed by the film screening. Producer and director Joanne Friedland Roberts will be on hand for a Q&A session after the film. Space is limited, and advance registration is required at amagansettlss.org. The next screening of “The Bonackers” will take place on December 14 at Sag Harbor Cinema as part of its Projection Series. The film is slated for PBS distribution nationwide in 2026.

The East Hampton Food Pantry reports that its annual food drive, which began October 6 and continues through November 14, is already halfway to its goal of 3,000 pounds of food.
