Feb 26, 2010 11:10 AM

A Riverhead man was arrested Thursday after trying to rob a bank down the street from where he lives, according to police.

Riverhead Town Police said Ronald Mallett, 48, of 7 East Main Street walked into the Chase Bank, located at 7 West Main Street, around 10 a.m. and handed a note to the bank teller demanding money. The bank manager told him that she was calling the police, and he ran from the bank without any money, authorities said.

He was arrested by Riverhead Town Police at 2:56 p.m. and charged with third degree attempted robbery, a felony.

Mr. Mallett was scheduled to be arraigned in Riverhead Town Court on Friday.
