Donald B. Katz of Sag Harbor died at his home on March 15. He was 85.
A graduate of New York University School of Commerce, Mr. Katz began his accounting practice on a card table in his mother-in-law’s store, The Fil-Net Shoppe, in Sag Harbor. He later established the Donald B. Katz Accounting firm in his own building on Main Street. His avid love for tennis motivated him to be a founding partner of the Bridgehampton Tennis and Surf Club. For 25 years, he was president of Temple Adas Israel and relished his role at the temple as shofar blower on the high holidays. Survivors said his greatest love was his family and his life in Sag Harbor.
Mr. Katz is survived by his wife, Gertrude; and children, Phyllis Katz, Susan Leavitt and husband Alan, Hank Katz and wife Jayne, and Jane Levy and husband Alan; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Arlene.
