A bicyclist who was airlifted to the hospital last week after suffering severe head injuries after being hit by an SUV in Southampton Village was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday, according to Southampton Village Police.
At about 7:37 a.m. on Friday, police received a 911 call about an accident at the intersection of Moses Lane and Armande Street involving a 2010 Lexus driven by Luis F. Bustamante, 54, of Montauk, and a bicyclist, John C. Carreras, 49, of New York City, Village Police Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison said.
Police and Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance paramedics administered aid, he said. Mr. Carreras was flown to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment.
Mr. Bustamante was not injured in the accident, Det. Sgt. Lamison said. The Lexus was impounded by police for a safety inspection, and “the case is still being investigated,” Det. Sgt. Lamison wrote in an email on Tuesday.
Police Chief Thomas Cummings said the safety check on the car, as well as a basic crash analysis, should be completed sometime this week.
At the scene on Friday, a white Lexus GX 450 with New York plates and a dented grill was facing south at the intersection. In front of the SUV, a red Schwinn bicycle was lying in the road. Scattered on the street were a baseball cap, the bicyclist’s jacket and some medical supplies.

Also, there are some rules motorists don't have like dismounting your bicycle when crossing ...more the street.
