Irving Joins Southampton Village Trustee Race; Cannon Might Not Seek Reelection

Apr 17, 2012 2:37 PM

Southampton Village Planning Board Chairman Michael Irving recently picked up an election petition at Village Hall, expressing his intent to run for a Village Board seat this June, according to Village Administrator Stephen Funsch.

Mr. Irving has been on the Planning Board since August 2007 and is a member of Trustee Bill Hattrick’s Patriot Party. He is the first candidate to announce that he will seek a seat on the board.

Southampton Village Trustee Bonnie Cannon, who is up for reelection this year, has not yet picked up her petition and said it is “still up in the air” as to whether she will seek a fourth term on the board. Ms. Cannon was first elected to the board in 2006.

Fellow Trustee Richard Yastrzemski, who is also up for reelection, said he will seek a third term on the board. “I’ve enjoyed what I’ve done, what I’ve worked on so far, and I hope the people think the same way,” he said.

Candidates must gather at least 75 signatures by May 11 to see their names on the ballot. They must accept or deny nominations by May 15.

Members of the public will cast their votes on June 15.
