Mark Weins, known as Marcus, of North Haven, Connecticut, died from injuries sustained in a car accident on May 21 in Palm Coast, Florida. He was 56 and had spent time on the East End.
Mr. Weins was born March 1, 1958, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from North Haven High School in 1976 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville University in 1982. Survivors said he will best be remembered as the welcoming face of his family-owned business, the Rustic Oak, a restaurant in North Haven that closed its doors earlier this year after 40 years as a community favorite. They also said his beautiful smile, blue eyes, kind words and attention to detail made everyone’s experience at the Oak feel unique, adding that Mr. Weins was devoted to his family and many friends and that he made people from all walks of life feel special.
Among his many passions were the beach, the arts, his Alfa Romeo, MG, consignment shops and the Hamptons. Throughout his life, he had lived in New York City, San Francisco, the Hamptons and Jacksonville.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth (Justi) Sheridan, and stepfather, Thomas Sheridan; two brothers, Scott Weins and wife Susan of North Haven, and Timothy Weins and wife Romi Brown of Minnesota; two stepsisters, Kristin White and husband Marshall of Connecticut, Beth Ann Gaetano and husband Rob of Connecticut; and an uncle, James Justi and wife Debbie of Pennsylvania.
