Dorothy T. King of Springs died at Southampton Hospital on July 19. She was 84 and the cause of death was a stroke.
Born on September 27, 1929, in her grandparents’ home on Fireplace Road in Springs, she was the daughter of Clarence E. King and Elizabeth Baker, both of whom predeceased her.
A librarian for the East Hampton Library’s Long Island Collection from 1971 to 2002, she never married. She continued to volunteer at the library after retirement, as well as at the Springs Food Pantry. She was a member of the Springs Community Church, the Springs Historical Society and the Accabonac Preservation Society.
A graduate of East Hampton High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree in library science from Long Island University. Volume five of “Origins of the Past: The Story of Montauk & Gardiner’s Island,” part of the East Hampton Library series, is dedicated to Ms. King.
Predeceased by a brother, Clarence E. King Jr.; and a sister, Alice Bell MacPherson Field, she is survived by two nieces, Deanna Tikkanen and Carol MacPherson Elms; and five nephews, John C. MacPherson, Barry MacPherson, Clarence E. King III, David M. King and Sidney Fields.
A funeral service took place at the Springs Community Presbyterian Church on July 22; Pastor Anthony Larsen officiated. Interment followed at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home.
