Carol Danielson of Westhampton Beach died on August 26. She was 77.
Ms. Danielson grew up in Jamestown and was a longtime resident of Westhampton Beach. During the 1970s, she was an active member of the Babylon Methodist Church as a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher; in the 1990s she taught tai chi to students all over the East End of Long Island.
Ms. Danielson was an independent and private woman, but to those close to her, she was always a source of razor-sharp wit and insightful observation, survivors said. She was a skilled seamstress and knitter, and she loved a good book. She regularly donated money to animal shelters and children’s charities. Survivors said the bulk of her energy and attention was reserved for her family, especially her granddaughter, Erin Young.
She lived with her son and granddaughter in Westhampton Beach, but spent her final weeks with her daughter in Vermont.
She is survived by two children, Lance Scorse and wife Suzie, and Nancy Haselton and husband Chris; grandchildren, Jack, Tina, Erin and Cameron; a younger sister, Marilyn Moreland of Vermont; a niece, Michelle; and nephews Mark, Gary and Todd Sleggs.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral.
Memorial donations may be made to a local animal shelter.
