Clara Culver Hulse of Westhampton Beach died at the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead on Monday, March 2. The widow of former Southampton Town Supervisor Theodore Hulse, she was 81.
Born on July 24, 1927, to Harold F. and Ethel Miller Culver, Mrs. Hulse was a lifelong Westhampton Beach resident. She graduated from Westhampton Beach High School and attended Oneonta State Teachers College, now known as State University of New York College at Oneonta.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Hulse Lander of Quogue, Betsy Hulse Doyle of Westhampton Beach, and Jamie Hulse Smith and her husband B.J. of Corning, New York; a son, Charles L. Hulse and his wife Molly of Vermont; two brothers, Robert Culver of North Babylon and Harold Culver and his wife Alice of Peconic; two sisters, Ethel Culver Clark and her husband Phillip of Skaneateles, New York, and Virginia Culver Gilmore of Westhampton; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Lander Zayicek, C. Arthur Lander III and his wife Lynette, Sean, Corydon and Robert Doyle, Eli and Anna Hulse, and Lydia, Trey and Benjamin Smith; and one great-grandchild, Madelyn Zayicek.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Lorene Culver Cyphers.
A private gathering of family was held at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
