Feb 10, 2010 11:52 AM

Eleanor H. Brubaker died of lymphoma on February 6 at her home in Westhampton Beach. She was 82.

Ms. Brubaker was born June 29, 1927, in Cherryville, Pennsylvania, to Florence Gangaware and Harold Humphrey.

After she and Richard “Dick” Brubaker were married, they moved to Westhampton Beach and were active in the community.

She worked as a teacher for several years at the Westhampton Beach School District, and had many interests, including her involvement with the Westhampton Beach Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for 56 years.

She also enjoyed tennis and tending to her home and garden. Friends and family remarked that she was “well known for her kindness and for lending a helping hand.”

She volunteered her time with a variety of organizations throughout her life, often stopping by the Westhampton Beach Care Center with her pug, Bubba. In addition, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society, and often read to children at the Westhampton Beach farmers market.

She frequently brought meals to the homebound and provided homemade crafts for the Westhampton Beach Presbyterian Church’s annual Christmas bazaar.

Family members also noted that she will be well remembered for her “wonderful Christmas gingerbread cookies that she lovingly baked each year for family, friends and church.”

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Brubaker of New Hampshire and Susan Brubaker of East Moriches; and two sons, Scott Brubaker and his wife Karen of Pennsylvania and Peter Brubaker and his wife Lisa of North Carolina.

Her husband, Richard Brubaker, and a grandson, Joshua Brubaker, predeceased her.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 14, at 2 p.m. at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978, Westhampton Presbyterian Church, 90 Meeting House Road, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 would be appreciated by the family.
