The Amagansett Food Institute will host the first in a series of public discussions of the future of East End farming on Sunday, June 25. The session, titled “A New ‘Lease’ on Farmland,” will take place at Scoville Hall at 350 Main Street in Amagansett.
A panel of experts will engage in an educational discussion centered on programs that assist farmers in obtaining land via purchase or lease, as well as opportunities that members of the community have to assist farmers in purchasing land and preserving East End farming.
Admission is free, but AFI asks that those from the general public give a nominal donation to support AFI’s community programs. Those interested in East End farming preservation are encouraged to attend.
Kevin Egolf, the co-founder and manager of the Local Farms Fund; Herb Stroebel, the executive director of the Hallockville Museum Farm; Jessie Marcus, a project associate of conservation planning for the Peconic Land Trust; and Terence Duvall, a conservation and agricultural projects associate for the Columbia Land Conservancy, will make up the panel.
The event starts at 11 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. AFI will host future iterations of the series, but exact dates have yet to be finalized. Those who wish to receive updates and notifications about the series can email info@amagansettfoodinstitute.org.
