Montauk’s Sands Motel at 71 South Emerson Avenue has sold to a prominent hospitality group, announced the listing and selling agents, Hal Zwick and Jeff Sztorc of the Hamptons Commercial Real Estate Team at Compass.

Sands Motel is a 19,500-square-foot hotel complex with 43 keys across four buildings with “stunning ocean views and proximity to both the town center and beach,” according to Compass, and a pool and decks. The makeup is a mix of efficiency and one-bedroom units, including select accommodations with kitchen facilities.

“We are excited to join the Montauk community with our acquisition of The Sands,” stated the new owner, Enduring Hospitality. “Our goal is to refurbish the existing hotel, centering on health and wellness, while safeguarding the authenticity of Montauk and its connection to surf culture.”

The hotel, built in 1951, came on the market last spring for $28 million. It was previously on the market in 2021 with another brokerage for $45.9 million.

“We’re excited to be able to see this substantial deal through for a storied and esteemed Montauk family,” Sztorc said in a statement. “The Sands Motel has a rich history (circa 1950s) within the downtown fabric and it will be incredible to see a tasteful renovation take place that will brighten our commercial district.”

Zwick added: “We look forward to how the Sands will evolve over the next year to serve the growing summer and shoulder season communities. We are sure that the enhancements will be a welcome addition to Montauk and the East End.”
