Discounts On Solar Continue For East Hampton Building Owners

author on Nov 13, 2018

Solarize East Hampton, which offers East Hampton town and village residents and businesses discounted rates on rooftop solar panels, is set to continue indefinitely.

The renewable energy incentive to cut the cost of obtaining solar by 10 to 20 percent was due to expire by November but was extended by the town due to strong community interest in the program.

The offer is available only through GreenLogic Energy, a Southampton-based solar installer. GreenLogic is responsible for consulting with home and business owners, drafting a site assessment, and providing an estimate for a solar array at a reduced price.

Other programs offered through the town’s Energize East Hampton campaign—a renewable energy initiative launched in May in an effort to reduce electric use and subsequent bills—were also extended. Those include Green Homes, which provides free energy audits and rebates through PSEG Long Island, and South Fork Peak Savers, which provides $950 pool pump rebates, and supply free LEDs for commercial lighting as well as energy-saving smart thermostats.

In a statement, Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said he went through the Solarize program earlier this year.

“We paid nothing out of pocket; roughly half of the total cost will be covered by state and federal tax credits and low interest financing covers the rest,” Mr. Van Scoyoc said. “We are meeting all of our energy needs, while also providing clean, renewable energy to the grid.”
