The $5.7 million sale of a Hampton Bays waterfront estate last week may have broken the record of the highest-priced residential property ever sold in the hamlet.

The waterfront estate at 132 Newtown Road was listed by Douglas Elliman Real Estate. Miller Samuel Inc. President and CEO Jonathan Miller—who does consulting work for Douglas Elliman—noted last Thursday that it marked a record-setting price tag.

The second-highest sale was 92 Red Creek Road—the Beau Baker Estate—at $5.5 million in 2014, according to Douglas Elliman.

It includes 225 feet of the Peconic Bay shoreline, seven bedrooms, three bathrooms and a half bath.

The property is known as Shorebluff, and has been the backdrop for a few films, including “The Forgotten” (directed by Joseph Ruben; starring Julianne Moore) and “Margot at the Wedding” (directed by Noah Baumbach; starring Nicole Kidman).

The property, owned by the Garber family, originally went into contract in 2016, but took nearly two years to close due to family estate issues.

The property was sold to an undisclosed buyer. The sale price was $705,000 more than the asking price.
