Willie Degel is known to most as the host of “Restaurant Stakeout” on the Food Network, not to mention as the founder and CEO of the Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse chain in New York City.

What many might not realize is that he’s also a “builder and designer of lifestyles”—and that he has a new post-modern on the market for $4.5 million on Quiogue.

Mariko Pichardo of Douglas Elliman, who has the listing, said it’s got features you don’t normally find in a brand-new house: barn wood floors, a “beautiful arch” between the family room and kitchen, three different types of barn wood in an office, ceilings with barn wood, and more.

“In the meantime, it’s very modern,” she said. The 6,000-square-foot house is 98-percent energy-efficient, has remote-controlled fire pits, marble baths, a Gunite pool, a permit for a tennis court, and a security system.

On 1 acre near two churches, a synagogue and Westhampton Beach’s Main Street, the house sits at the former compound where Budd Schulberg wrote “On the Waterfront,” according to Ms. Pichardo.

Mr. Degel, who himself lives in Brookville and Quogue, also has a $2.75 million house of his own design on the market in Quogue.

Tips for Avoiding Rental Scams

Rental scams are pervasive, targeting both those seeking permanent housing and those seeking a quick getaway or seasonal lease.
