Itzhak Perlman To Rehearse With Young String Students

author on Jun 18, 2019

Pre-college string students of all levels (ages 8 to 18) are invited to join the East End Arts Student Orchestra in rehearsals for its eighth annual collaborative project with the Perlman Music Program this July.

This tuition-free program, which began in 2012, aims to connect local school-age string students with an orchestra made up of international student musicians under the baton of Itzhak Perlman, a “world-renowned maestro and violin virtuoso.”

The Perlman Music Program was founded by Toby Perlman, Mr. Perlman’s wife, in 1994 with the aim of offering musical training to young string players. Each summer, the program’s faculty and students are based at the Perlman campus on Shelter Island.

There are 55 spots available for the East End Arts program and the deadline to register is July 1 at eastendarts.org. Though the program is free, there is a $35 administrative fee. Rehearsals will be held at the East End Arts Carriage House on 141 East Main Street in Riverhead on Mondays July 8, 15 and 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. A fourth open rehearsal with Mr. Perlman will take place on Wednesday, July 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., with the location to be announced. For information call 631-369-2171.
