Every so often, we like to tour some amazing homes in the Hamptons that we can admire from afar—like trying on wedding dresses with friends when you’re all extremely single. What? It’s not pathetic, shut up. In any event, here are five awesome estates with some awesome price tags to match.

$85 Million—The One And Only Villa Maria

No mystery here. Villa Maria in Water Mill is a grand dame in the Hamptons. And she’s earned that title, having been built in 1919, at the height of the Gilded Age. With this manse, we like to pretend we’re barons who would wow guests with the soaring triple story spiraling staircase and imported Carrara marble baths. Plebeians need not apply. In all seriousness, this place is magnificent, with 11 bedrooms, 15.5 baths and a total of 22,000 square feet. There’s also a carriage house and a separate gatehouse. The whole property is 15 acres overlooking Mecox Bay. Listed with Corcoran.

$49 Million—The Angel View

This 6.5-acre estate perched atop a 50-foot bluff would be perfect for BASE jumpers, save for the whole not-being-high-enough thing. The bare minimum is something like 250 feet, so don’t even think of trying that. Anyhoo, the six-bedroom, 6.5-bath estate overlooks a bay in North Haven and is located inside a gated community. At 12,000 square feet, it’s got amenities aplenty: two-tiered infinity-edge pools, rock-rimmed ponds and streams, tennis, a covered cabana, direct water access for kayaks, etc. Our personal favorite, however, is the grotto, with some kind of celestial painting on the ceiling! Ahhh. Dubbed “Angel View,” the property is listed with Sotheby’s.

$29.95 Million—The Movable Wall

This super-modern beauté in Water Mill is for the high tech-loving nerd in your life, which is pretty much all of us these days. We’ll get to all the basics of home in a moment. First, we’d like to highlight the floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the living room that hydraulically disappear into the floors. That’s right, the walls basically melt into the ground … without mind-altering pharmaceuticals! Now, onto the rest, like the 180-degree ocean and Mecox Bay views, heated pool, geothermal systems and solar panels. The four-bedroom, four-bath home is 3,592 square feet and sits on 1.5 acres that’s protected by a steel bulkhead. Listed with Douglas Elliman.

$19.75 Million—The Grand Captain’s House

It seems we have a penchant for old houses this time around. This large Greek Revival-style house in Sag Harbor was built in 1833 and renovated in 1850 in the Italianate style. At 10,000 square feet, it has seven beds, 8.5 baths and sits on a little over an acre. We love the grand parlors, broad, covered porches and a third-floor loft with a bathroom leading up to the widow’s walk. A widow’s walk! Here, we can be romantic, forlorn and generally have all the feels. Some modern touches have been added along the way: There’s a finished lower level with full bath and a new, four-bay, climate-controlled garage with an art studio. Listed with Brown Harris Stevens.

Price Upon Request—The Main Street Estate

Last but not least is this 10-bed, 8.5-bath estate with no public price. At 10,000 square feet, it’s located on 5.5 acres right on Main Street in East Hampton. Using our sharp detective skills, we’ve deduced that this property might be expensive. But it’s also perrrty. It was built in the 1930s for Robert Lion Gardiner, a prominent East Hampton resident, and has since been refitted and restored. We love the old-world charm, what with its stone exterior and regal fountain out front. This house is super convenient too, within walking distance to the village center and the beaches. Listed with Corcoran.

Tips for Avoiding Rental Scams

Rental scams are pervasive, targeting both those seeking permanent housing and those seeking a quick getaway or seasonal lease.
