John “Jack” C. Kuhn Jr. of Hampton Bays died on November 28, 2016, at Southampton Hospital. He was 94.
Mr. Kuhn was born in Manhattan on October 11, 1922, to John C. Kuhn Sr. and Anne Lhotta. He grew up in Bay Shore and graduated from Bay Shore High School, where he met Rita Morris, who would become his wife.
He served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his service, he settled in Levittown and was the proprietor of the Acme Bowling Casino in Great Neck. The family moved to Hampton Bays in 1970.
Mr. Kuhn was a life member and past master of the Old Towne Lodge #908 of Free and Accepted Masons in Southampton. In his free time he enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Kuhn was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Rita; and a sister, Helen Traystmann. He is survived by three children, John C. Kuhn III and wife Cheryl of Speonk, Susan McCabe and husband Thomas of Montauk, and Nancy K. Coughlin and husband David of Hawthorne; his grandchildren, Joseph Vish, Jennifer Palmer, Corrine Vish, Kathryn Ballerini, Sarah Coughlin, Jacklyn Harding-Kuhn and Aimee Ré; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Kuhn. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Rose Kuhn.
Visiting will be on Friday, December 2, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Members of the Masonic Lodge will hold a service, followed by a funeral service, officiated by the Reverend Richard Boyer, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton.
