Albert R. Talmage, also known as “Dick,” died on October 5, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was 87.
Born on November 22, 1928, at Southampton Hospital, to Albert and Hazel (Hildreth) Talmage, he lived in Sagaponack and attended the little red schoolhouse there for eight years, and the Bridgehampton Public School.
He served in the Korean War for two years and then worked for the New York Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring and spending time between his homes on South Hutchinson Island, Florida, and Sagaponack.
Mr. Talmage was a member of the Bridgehampton Fire Department since 1946, serving as captain of the Mack Company, and then chief of the department. He also served on the Board of Fire Commissioners and later transferred to the ambulance company where he served many years.
A member of the Bridgehampton Club since 1966, he enjoyed playing golf there and at many courses in Florida.
Mr. Talmage is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gloria Talmage; a daughter, Susan Steudte and husband Harald; a granddaughter, Jennifer Parendo and husband Keith of Babylon; and grandson, Benjamin Steudte and wife Brittany of Hampton Bays; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Charlotte and Michael Parendo.
A Bridgehampton Fire Department service was conducted on October 11 at O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass took place on October 12 at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton, followed by interment at Edgewood Cemetery.
