Barbara Thatcher Missett died at her home in West Palm Beach, Florida, on January 20, surrounded by her family. She was 77.
Born on May 25, 1938, in Washington, D.C. to Herbert and Virginia Thatcher, she graduated from Rosemont College in Philadelphia in 1960 where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in English. In 1980, she co-founded VIART Corporation, an art management firm based in New York City. During its 29 years of operation VIART provided art advisory services to more than a hundred Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, law firms, and private individuals including the acquisition of American, European, African and Asian art in all mediums and all periods. She was a member of the Everglades Club in Palm Beach, Florida, the Meadow Club of Southampton, and the Bathing Corporation of Southampton.
Ms. Missett was predeceased by her parents; and younger brother, Denis Thatcher. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Missett IV and Stephen Missett; grandson Santiago Missett; and siblings Judy O’Donnell, Sheila Taylor, Stephen Thatcher, Joyce Thatcher and Herbert Thatcher II.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Quattlebaum’s Funeral Home in West Pam Beach. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Palm Beach. A reception will follow at the Everglades Club.
