Paul Schiavoni died on June 26 at his home in North Haven after a three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. He was 74.
A lifelong resident of Sag Harbor, Mr. Schiavoni was born on February 2, 1940, to Teresa Rozzi Schiavoni and Vincent Schiavoni, both of whom predeceased him as well as his two brothers, Jim and Bob. He graduated from Pierson High School in 1957 and after four years in the U.S. Navy he returned to Sag Harbor and was very involved in the community. He was a volunteer fireman for the Sag Harbor Fire Department and a member and former president of the Sag Harbor School Board in the 1970s and ’80s. An avid lover of all sports, Mr. Schiavoni coached many Little League teams and now those once-young boys are fathers coaching their own children. He loved the Mets, the New York Giants and always liked to talk about sports.
Survivors said he loved to crab, clam and golf, but his greatest passion was his family.
His wife, Linda Matles Schiavoni, survives, as well as two children, Robin Schiavoni, Gregg Schiavoni and wife Kristen; and three grandsons, Cooper, Tucker, and Christian.
Services were held on July 1 at St. Andrew’s Church.
