Felix Anthony Novelli of Southampton died on May 8 at Greenfield Assisted Living in Berryville, Virginia. He was 89.
Mr. Novelli was retired from the New York City Department of Sanitation. He was born on April 8, 1925, in New York City, the son of the Charles Novelli and Katie Lamatina Novelli.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on board the USS Intrepid. Actively involved in veterans issues, he was a member of the USS Intrepid Association—serving on its board of directors, he spoke to veterans groups, and participated in the Honor Flight of Long Island that takes World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II memorial. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Vets, and the VFW.
In 2011, he was named grand marshal of the annual Southampton Fourth of July parade. He enjoyed the Southampton Town Senior Center and loved boating and clamming off Dune Road.
He married Josephine Cirelli on October 7, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. She predeceased him on October 16, 1986.
Mr. Novelli is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Voorhees and husband Dennis of Virginia, and Christine Cillis and husband Teddy of Seaford; a grandson, Christopher Novelli; three granddaughters, Kelly Jo Voorhees, Carissa Cillis and Ciarra Cillis; and a sister, Lorraine Sassone of Hauppauge.
A son, Carl Novelli, predeceased him on October 9, 2007.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home in Seaford. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, at St. William the Abbot Catholic Church in Seaford. Burial with military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
