Westhampton native Aurora Perez of Wilmington, North Carolina, died on November 22. She was 86.

Born in 1924, she was educated and raised in Manhattan and Westhampton. She attended the New York School of Interior Design and Pratt Institute. She was a liberal Democrat and had a passion for design, fashion and painting.

A voracious reader, she was a friend to the Westhampton Free Library. She was of Armenian decent and continuously educated those around her of the Armenian genocide. She had recently given a lecture on the topic.

She is survived by her husband, Louis Perez of North Carolina; a daughter, Francesca Evans of North Carolina; two sons from a previous marriage, Doug Gilbakian of Quiogue and John Gilbakian of Paraguay; two sisters, Virginia Zsiray and Rose Badigian; and six grandchildren, Forest, Grace, Tulasi and Gopal Gilbakian and Oscar and Roman Evans.

A memorial service is planned for late spring or early summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Westhampton Free Library, 7 Library Avenue, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 would be appreciated by the family.
