Antanas "Tony" Skerys
Antanas “Tony” Skerys of Sag Harbor died November 13, 2019, after a brief illness. He was 63.
Born September 14, 1959, in Brooklyn, the family then moved to Queens, New York; he was the first generation born in America from parents who emigrated from Lithuania, as refugees at the end of World War II. His father was an active member in the cause for Lithuanian freedom.
Fluent in Lithuanian as a child, he maintained knowledge of the language and culture of his ancestry all his life.
As a child, Mr. Skerys spent many summers at Lake Panamoka in Riverhead, which was the start of his love for the East End of Long Island. He visited Sag Harbor over the years and moved to Sag Harbor permanently in 1985.
He was employed as a plumber for Robert Price Plumbing in Southampton, earning respect for his ability to troubleshoot and figure out complicated plumbing issues and providing the best solution. Survivors said he could fix almost anything.
Mr. Skerys is survived by his children, Amelia, Aura, Peter and Elena; and his ex-wife, Rita; a number of uncles and aunts; many cousins; and his good friends.
