Louise Hallock Anderson Dies December 8

Louise Hallock Anderson of Oak Island, North Carolina, died at home on December 8, 2019. She was 88.

Mrs. Anderson was born March 16, 1931, in Southampton, daughter of the late Dr. David H. Hallock and Doris Phillips Hallock.

On June 28, 1951, a warm summer night, Louise Hallock, a junior at Connecticut College for Women, and a girlfriend walked into the dance hall at the Westhampton Air Force Base and across the room stood Ken Anderson, a young recruit from rural Connecticut. On many occasions he has shared that upon laying eyes on her he said to himself “... that is the girl I am going to marry.” After a summer courtship, on September 26, 1951, the day before Mr. Anderson boarded the train for the West Coast to be deployed to Korea, she and Mr. Anderson were married at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. Their love was evident to all that crossed their path, especially their children, survivors said.

Like most marriages, theirs had challenges but their joy of being together, their respect for one another, their deep love, and their never ending commitment carried them for 68 years. Even until the days preceding her death, Mr. Anderson would reminisce with her through song and sharing memories of their life together. They were the consummate example of a love deeply shared, survivors said.

Her husband, Kenneth Allen Anderson, survives. Additional survivors include their four daughters, Kathleen Anderson, Betsy Makris, Amy Swift and husband Edwin, and Julie Higbee and husband Tom; eight grandchildren, Carrie Boucher and husband Hubert, Matt Makris and wife Samm, Christopher Makris and wife Mary, Kristin Anderson, Kenneth Landry, Amanda Swift, Michael Higbee, and Jessica Higbee; six great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Millie, Louis, Bennett, Walter, Violet; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, Robert Hallock. She was predeceased by a brother, David Hallock; and son-in-law Michael Makris.

A funeral service took place in Southport, North Carolina, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.
