HamptonsFilm’s next installment of “Now Showing” will be Pedro Almodóvar’s 2019 film “Pain and Glory” which will screen on Saturday, February 1, at 6 p.m. at Guild Hall in East Hampton.

The film stars Salvador Mallo (Antonio Banderas) as a film director in physical decline who shares a series of re-encounters in his life. Some of these encounters are in the flesh, while others are remembered. The events include his childhood in the ‘60s, when he emigrated with his parents to a village in Valencia, Spain, in search of prosperity; his first adult love in Madrid in the ‘80s, followed by the pain of the breakup of that love while it was still alive and intense; writing as the only therapy to forget the unforgettable; his early discovery of cinema, and the infinite void created by the incapacity to keep on making films.

“Pain and Glory” talks about creation, the difficulty of separating it from one’s own life and the passions that give it meaning and hope. In recovering his past, Salvador finds the urgent need to recount it, and in that need he also finds his salvation.

The film also stars Penelope Cruz, Asier Etxeandia, Leonardo Sbaraglia, César Vicente, and Asier Flores and is shortlisted as Spain’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film Oscar. HamptonsFilm’s “Now Showing” brings acclaimed first-run art house, independent and world cinema films currently in theaters to the East End.

Tickets for the screening are $15 ($13 Guild Hall members) at 631-324-4050 or Theatermania.com at 1-866-811-4111. Guild Hall is at 158 Main Street, East Hampton.
