Enjoyed Steven Stolman’s story about naming houses [“What’s In A Name?” StyleHampton, Residence, July 9], something I think should always be done. And it must be great fun naming some things: Boats, ski trails, wines and trains all come to mind.
Not to mention vehicles. My wife and I once had a pickup named Maybelline, because maybe she would start. Or the black Suburban with the oversized RV mirrors that the mechanics called Mickey Mouse. My wife’s Volvo is called The Swedish Model.
Years ago, a buddy and I bought a rundown shack on Lazy Point. For names, we considered Napeague Fatigue, Poison Ivy Acres Under The Sea, (flood zone), and, since we were girl crazy, Lust Horizon. It was finally named Dune Nuthin, proudly painted on an old broken oar.
My neighbor is a retired corrections officer. His house is named Dune Time.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you for “Water Hogs” [“The Water Hogs of the Hamptons, 2025,” Residence, 27east.com, August 28], a deeply necessary, smart service to us all, tracking the reality — what the press can do. I teach a course in the spring,...

I was born in Dublin in 1960 and grew up watching Northern Ireland tear itself apart. Once violence was unleashed, it became the language of politics. Over three decades, more than 3,500 people were murdered before peace was finally secured...
Close your eyes and picture yourself asking for one more day. This isn’t about death — it’s about fear. Not the kind that comes from a horror movie, but the fear that creeps into everyday life: at the grocery store,...
I must say, my stomach turned as I read the antisemitic diatribe Richard Smith submitted [“A War Crime,” Letters, September 4] about heinous acts apparently committed by the surrounded, out-gunned, out-manned Jewish forces defending themselves after the State of Israel...
As autumn approaches, the days grow cooler and light fades earlier, and Americans think of falling leaves and hearty stews. Here, for the culinary-minded, is a recipe for this fall — or our fall, as it were. POT AU FEW:...
At Amagansett School, there has been some darkness and dark days. Let’s shed some light on developing occurrences. Michael Rodgers filed an Equal Employment Opportunity complaint in 2022. I can reference my correspondences with the District of Columbia, which tracked...
