Respect And Dignity

Apparently, last week, there was a horrific page in this newspaper that I believe may have been targeting my family. The ad said that one family controlled Southampton Village. I am assuming it is because our son, Zach Epley, is running for Southampton Village Board.

Zach has a quote on his desk that he lives by that reads: “There is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don’t care who gets the credit.”

I didn’t think that we had to talk about this, but I guess for some people giving your time, energy and money to their community is classified as “control.”

We raised our family to give back to the community. Here are a just a few examples on our family resume; we call it giving back: serving as mayor for 12 years, Rogers Memorial Library Board president, Southampton Village Planning Board member, president of the Heart of the Hamptons board, chief of the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance, volunteer ambulance member, captain in the Southampton Fire Department, member of the Southampton Fire Department, founding member of the Southampton Youth Services board, PTO board member for 16 years, Southampton Village Beautification Committee, Southampton Housing Authority ASEND, Southampton Youth Association soccer coordinator, Southampton Arts Center founding board member, Southampton History Museum board member, Veterans Committee, Southampton Town Conservation Board member, Pine Barrens Committee, Community Preservation Fund Advisory Board, Southampton Little League board member, Flying Point Foundation board member, and coaching soccer, football, basketball and baseball from youth through high school. And, yes, that is my parents’ name on the SYS Southampton Town Recreation Center building.

How sad it is when you have no positive contributions to our community on your resume to turn to, trying to make your opponent look bad through negative and false ads. How can certain people look at themselves in the mirror? Anyone involved in this kind of slander should be ashamed of themselves.

Kimberly Allan has been a hardworking, honest, dedicated village trustee. We are fortunate to have her on the board.

It is a small village — Zach and Kimberly would never do something like this. It is all about what is best for the Village of Southampton. The people you attack are someone’s parent, child, spouse, aunt, uncle, grandchild.

Please vote for Zach Epley and Kimberly Allan. They have respect and show dignity for our village and others.

Marianne Epley
