On Sunday, September 20, the Southampton Arts Center, 25 Jobs Lane, Southamtpon Village, will be the site of an intimate garden cocktail reception and outdoor film screening of “No Boundaries,” Jeff Sewald’s documentary film narrated by Glenn Close.

Guests will also be able to meet individuals working to bring the Peter Matthiessen Center to life, and learn more about the organization and the next phase of its campaign to capture the spiritual force that was author, naturalist and Sagaponack resident Peter Matthiessen.

The group’s vision is to preserve the legacy of Matthiessen by acquiring and restoring the 3.3-acre property — located at 527 Bridge Lane in Sagaponack — where he lived and worked for 55 years and turning it into a quiet center for writing, contemplation, and retreat. With a focus on the core tenets of Matthiessen’s lifelong passions, which were writing, environmental conservation, social justice and Zen practice, the Peter Matthiessen Center (PMC) will be used in perpetuity as a reflective refuge for leading thinkers of our time. On account of his prodigious contributions to literature, activism and American Zen during his five decades on the South Fork, the property has become a significant cultural landmark.

On September 20, be sure to bring a beach chair and blanket to gather under the stars to celebrate the legacy of one of America’s most distinguished writers.

The cocktail reception is from 5 to 6 p.m. and $150 includes a ticket to the film. For the film only, 6:30 to 8 p.m., tickets are $25.

As space is limited, please reserve by emailing info@matthiessencenter.org.
