Losing Focus

The Riverside Revitalization Action Plan had a vision of a walkable downtown area, full of neighbors meeting neighbors. It was a wonderful vision.

The plans are displayed on the first floor of Southampton Town Hall — and that’s where the vision will remain unless we jointly, as a community, demand that vision to move forward.

Locating yet another 7-Eleven defeats that purpose of a walkable, pedestrian-safe hamlet area [“Developers Articulate Details Of Proposed Traffic Circle Gas Station in Riverside,” 27east.com, March 13]. This is not what the original plan was to be.

We agree with Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association President Vince Taldone when he stated that an accessory convenience store/gasoline station would impede on what the community is trying to create.

Flanders, Riverside and Northampton will continue to advocate for our communities. We are not the orphans of Southampton Town — we are legitimately Southampton Town, and we are finally being recognized as such.

We agree with FRNCA: No to the 7-Eleven or any other gasoline/convenience store in the Riverside hamlet area of Flanders.
