False Consciousness

I am writing in response to the article titled “Armed Robbery Reported On Saturday In Riverside” [27east.com, March 21]. Although this article that I chose may be short and simple, it is an event that has been occurring a lot lately. There have been many incidents including gun violence occurring within the past few weeks, not just locally but nationally.

This has been raising a false consciousness for people within certain communities. Someone who has a false consciousness may wake up one day and believe they are living in a bad society due to rising events like these.

Even when gun violence is not on the rise, small events like this cause a rise in fear within certain communities, like Riverside, or within groups of people. When these types of incidents occur, it begins to make people wonder if things are going well within their communities. It causes panic, chaos and fear.

However, one incident may not mean constant violence. These two men have not been reported seen since the incident, nor the vehicle, and may not be from the area. Overall, a false consciousness is most likely going to be caused from this incident, due to the amount of fear it invoked within the local community.

I send my love and to my local community during these times, and I believe we should find a way to come together to fight false ideas like these.
