The sand pit on Middle Highway in East Hampton known as Sand Highway. A state judge this week ruled that allowing the mine to dig down 150 feet, creating a 6-acre lake of exposed groundwater, does not constitute an expansion of the mine. But another state court ruled in May that a similar proposal in Noyac was, in fact, an illegal expansion.
