The Noyac Civic Council was fortunate to have a tour of The Church in Sag Harbor given by one of its founders, April Gornik. The current exhibition, called “Road Rage,” is a brilliant look at how cars inspired 23 artists. This exhibition cannot be missed.

The Church was designed to display the work of local and international artists in an intimate setting, to foster creativity on the East End, and to “honor the living history of Sag Harbor as a maker village.” April and Eric Fischl purchased the old deconsecrated Methodist Church and renovated it to become an artist’s residency, exhibition space and innovative center for all the arts.

On our tour, April explained the structural changes made to the actual building and the challenges they faced while working with a 150-plus-year-old structure. The result is a breathtaking creative space for all the arts.

Eric created portraits of 20 notable artists and writers of Sag Harbor that adorn the windows. In addition, The Church hosts an art camp for children and sponsors some children who cannot afford to attend. There is something for all at The Church.

We thank April and Eric for their generosity and altruism in allowing the public to view this amazing facility. We hope that the community avails itself of this jewel in Sag Harbor and considers supporting this inspiring community organization. For more information see: sagharborchurch.org.
