This past week, I agreed to take a quick photo of a brief ceremony held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Quiogue. The occasion: to present a substantial check to Pastor Michael Bartholomew in support of the local food pantry program, which has for many years provided strong support for those in need within our community.
The ceremony was brief and quite informal, yet it had a powerful impact on me. Yes, as an officer of both the Westhampton Rotary Club and the local Joseph Slomski Knights of Columbus Council, I was well aware of the efforts of those organizations, as well as the Kiwanis Club, in this all-important area.
However, what struck me, as I prepared to take the group photo, was a reality rarely seen in today’s world of win-at-all cost one-upmanship — three separate and proud entities working closely together with a singular goal: helping to make the lives of all of our neighbors a bit more secure.
Bravo.
