Fighting Chance, a nonprofit dedicated to providing assistance and support to individuals and families affected by cancer, will hold its 2023 summer fundraising event, the Taste of Shelter Island Garden Celebration on Saturday, June 10, at the Italianate Gardens on Ward’s Point overlooking Peconic Bay.
The Taste of Shelter Island Garden Celebration will showcase the island’s vibrant culinary scene. Jamie Cogan of All Season Catering and Emily Needham, the Lettuce Lady, will provide local dishes to accompany the local wines, beers and a special craft cocktail. Attendees will have the opportunity to savor flavors, from sea to farm, while enjoying the gardens with a view over the bay for sunset.
In addition to the culinary offerings, the Garden Party will feature music by Erich Carey and The Constituency, and a silent auction of unique Shelter Island experiences including golf and lunch for four at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club, professional boat rigging, and various dining opportunities. Leon 1909, The Chequit and SALT restaurants will donate to Fighting Chance for each after-party dinner reservation made by Garden Celebration participants.
“We are incredibly excited to introduce a new summer event,” said executive director of Fighting Chance, Kathleen Mulcahy. “Our annual gala has become a beloved tradition and offering a change of scenery from the South Fork to Shelter Island is a great opportunity for us to show that Fighting Chance is here to serve all East Enders. Not only will attendees have the chance to indulge in exceptional local cuisine, but they will also make a meaningful impact on the lives of those facing cancer.”
Proceeds from the Taste of Shelter Island Garden Celebration will directly benefit Fighting Chance’s critical programs and services, which provide free counseling, navigation, and support to cancer patients and their families. Through its various initiatives, Fighting Chance has been able to make a tangible difference in the lives of many individuals, empowering them with the knowledge, resources, and emotional support needed to navigate their cancer.
Tickets for the Taste of Shelter Island Garden Celebration are available for purchase on the Fighting Chance website, fightingchance.org/events.
