Time To ‘Adopt-a-Patch’

The Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt is again offering an opportunity for residents to Adopt-a-Patch at Vineyard Field, behind the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton. The goal of the program is to restore the field, which has been overgrown with invasive autumn olive shrubs. Adopt-a-Patch was initiated in 2021 in which a volunteer is allotted a section of the field (their “patch”) where they will cut back any new sprouts at least once a month during the growing season. Virtual Trip to Israel Planned at Sag Harbor Temple

Temple Adas Israel in Sag Harbor will celebrate Yom HaAtzmaut with a virtual trip to Israel on Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. Participants in the virtual trip will sightsee and experience what makes Israel so special, while, along the way, enjoying various activities, crafts, outdoor games such as GaGa, Sheshbesh (backgammon), and a catered Israeli-style dinner. Local Hospitals Earn LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equity Designation

All Stony Brook Medicine hospitals, including Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and all Northwell Health hospitals, including Peconic Bay Medical Center, have been named “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leaders” for 2024 in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI). All hospitals received the top score of 100 on a survey encompassing nondiscrimination and staff training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, and patient and community engagement. Deadline for Bike Donations Is May 31

Used bikes that are no longer needed or wanted may be dropped off at North Haven Village Hall on Ferry Road. They will be turned over to the newly named nonprofit Long Island Bike Coop, whose volunteers will repair and refurbish any donated bike before turning it over to a new owner. The goal of the Long Island Bike Coop is to promote cycling and its related health benefits, and to keep bicycles out of the landfill, plus provide bicycles to those who need one. The Village of North Haven has proclaimed Saturday, May 18, to be Jimmy Buffett Day, in honor of the longtime resident, which will be celebrated at village hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm.
